I read about him in a story, Possibly Clay Blairs 2 volume book (I've read that too many times :)), and I can't help but feel amazed he survived, as the boat plunged to the surface, then plunged on its last dive not too long after surfacing. Personally, if I was him, I would feel bad that none of my men got out with me.

It's interesting to read about the commands he held.

2 boats. Each for about 1 year.
2 patrols on one, and 3 on the other.

Strange, right? I'm still trying to make sense of it. uboat.net is not telling me what i need to know. Because on the boat he had sink under his feet, his only reported damage (on uboat.net) at least, (prior to the sinking itself) was either a extremely minor bomb miss or some machine gun fire.
