I'm sure there has been quite a few of these already, but I'm not trying to change anyones opinion, but maybe someone will be enlightened to what I have to say. (Also, this sentence ((this one right here)) will be the only time I mention DRM, how nice is that)
When I saw SHIV: U boat missions come out, I knew SHV was going to be a U-boat game. We here at SUBSIM greeted this add-on with open arms, commenting widely on the new features (air support, submarine detail and so on.) Now, when I started seeing some of the first SHV videos, the I noticed that we were only seeing a Type VII and the new graphics details, I knew this new Silent Hunter will be lacking somewhere.
So they chopped off the last two years of the war and there is only one playable TYPE of U-boat. It is not the end my friends.
I think, from what I know, you don't just jump into a lake nekkid if you think the water might be cold. This game will be expanded. No matter what, the demand will be high enough, but this is Silent Hunter's way of moving on into the new age of gaming. Starting with base Silent Hunter IV, the U-boat mission add-on was, in my opinion, them testing the waters in terms of an expansion. They sat back and watched how we accepted it, how we used it, and how we worked with it. But, if my expansion idea is correct, maybe we will get some other hardware to play around with? This dynamic campaign the devs have going is certainly an improvement, believe it or not, I think even I chided that I want to change the war when I sink something big and important, or when I start sinking merchants like fish in a barrel. This may seem feeble and stupid, but imagine doing this with the Bismarck, or the Tirpitz, or something of that nature. This seems like heresy for those hardcore subsimmers out there, but this opens up a whole other spectrum of options open to the player. What we wanted and were expecting out of SHV was more options, we got them, in a few unexpected places. I have high hopes for this game, No matter what happens. It can be modded, they said so. So I want to say stop crying and let us modders take care of it when the time comes. That being said, with some of these new features, I see a lot of things even I could do to this game to give what the people are asking for. That sounds like a good deal to me.
My two cents:ping:
