What does that mean?

Different Types of the same model mate. AFAIK all are variants on the type 7.

I think it's referring to this part of the website:
http://silent-hunter.uk.ubi.com/silent-hunter-5/playable-ships.php
which apparently will be updated weekly.

If you look carefully at the silhouettes, the one on the far right has the double flak cannon "tiered decks" configuration

Yeah, they're talking only about variants, but the language leads a person to believe otherwise.
Typical bait and switch.

They probably will be.
BUT
(I can't help going to the new SHV website, it's like looking at train wreck) I just noticed that they are putting 88cm (!!!) gun on VIIA.
WOW that's gonna be quite of a BANG! One shell (for U.S. residents: 34.65 inches) and ANY merchant meets Davy Jones' locker.

They omitted the VIID (6 boats) and VIIF (four boats) variants. They did the VIIA but only ten were built. I guess they got bored with the VII's and couldn't be bothered to complete the set.
If find it most disturbing that a software company like Ubisoft has released to the public such a poorly edited and constructed pile of XHTML.
How they could not possibly get the content written properly is beyond me. Surely someone there speaks enough English to actually understand that releasing it as it has been is a complete embarrassment?
Combined with the errors on the map of the Mediterranean posted elsewhere, it bodes poorly for the content in game.

They may be minor spelling errors, but it demonstrates the attention to detail level, or more accurately, the lack thereof. Plain and simple.
Don't speak the language? Get in someone who does to at least proofread. Has always worked for me. At the least, consult Wikipedia. Even it spells country names correct!
@Randomizer: I guess the D and F variations were nixxed because they'd require model modifications - ie one size wouldn't fit all. But I hear what you are saying and fully concur.

I find this very childish, I am sorry but thats just how it is.
Modeling a whole interior is downright long time consuming process. And given they had, what, a year and a half to do the game. You do the math. Not to mention all the animations, of crew loading the torpedoes etc...
I may have bad feelings about this game (no it isn't a simulator), but some things I do understand why they decided for only one sub. For example, take a look at the SHIII. Each sub had only the control room specific to the type. The conning tower and the radio/sonar/cptain's bed were the same for all types. Why do you think was that?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwerer_Gustav <- Only 80cm though. Mounting it on your Type VII will speed up crash dives but will make staying on the surface a bit of an issue

While I agree with some of your points, nobody is twisting their arm to release the game now. I'd rather wait another year and a half and have "simulator" of all subs and a whole war then just a "game".

While I agree and the devs probably agree, I'll bet their business office (B.O.?) would disagree...simply because you know how much a developer costs per hour and you know how many hours it will take to deliver each piece of content. So, the game coming out in a month is probably what they could release at a point in time when they would still make money on it.
As some others have said, if the game is smaller in scope but bug-free, higher in quality, and includes good mod tools, then it will be totally worth it. If not, then we'll see what the subsim community can do.

Seriously - how could they make such a huge blunder with the measurements? This reminds me of when I was 7 yrs old and I wondered how the "USS Iowa's" guns could be only 16". :nope:
