Okay, now I certainly don't mean to ruffle feathers, but I wonder what the other kaleuns quaff after/during a rough patrol.... or whenever the time is right.

For me it varies, but usually beer will suffice. Stella Artoise? Stella!!! If only Iowa would import Weinhard's from wherever the Western States get it, I would be truly, a mostly content man. Perhaps it is a forbidden product in this strange and uncertain culture of which I am. Is Iowa part of the Iron Curtain which still lives within my warped childhood memories? Only repeated watchings of famous American documentary "Red Dawn" will tell, perhaps.

I don't drink when I'm on patrol. It wouldn't be fair to my crew to be less than clear minded if we run into an enemy patrol.

However, if we manage to sink a ship full of British ale and manage to haul a few crates aboard, the men deserve a bit of relaxation. Or perhaps we break out a bit of the "depth charge medicine" after a particularly tough time of playing dodgeball with the escorts.

Henry's is from the Irish part of the country, O'regon.

When I can get it, I prefer THIS brewery:

I mean, how can you not like a beer brewed in a town called, "Hopland"?

Here are my other 2 faves:

I don't drink. But when I did - and this was years ago mind you, it was B-52's or Orange Jubillee Mad Dog mixed with Everclear (tastes like orange juice, has a kick like a MULE).

Now I don't drink, nor do I smoke....

My vice is somewhere else entirely - and alot more fun than either!

The "White" postfix is because it's "witbier", which translates into "white beer".
White beer is a turbid, light-yellow type of beer, and ideal to enjoy on a hot day.
You shouldn't just pour it in your glass as that makes it too clear, which influences it's taste. Ideally, you should not be able to see more than let's say 1.5cm (half an inch) through it.
To get it turbid, first pour in about 3/4 of the bottle (preferrably without creating too much foam). Then shake the remaining quarter a bit, and pour it right in the middle of your glass to make it turbid and create the recommended 2 finger widths of foam:
http://www.esquire.com/cm/esquire/images/hoegaarden-glass-0609-lg.jpg

You might also want to try La Trappe Witte Trappist, another superb white beer, IMHO much better than Hoegaarden (and Hoegaarden is already really good), but much harder to find.

Oh, forgot to mention that my student corporation's pub is likely the cheapest pub in all the Netherlands, at 42 cents a beer (12 beer (Bavaria pilsner) for €5,00 if you buy them separately):)
If you buy them all at once, you can get 14 beer for €5,00:DL
Or even 30 beer for €10,00:D

That while a regular pub in Eindhoven usually doesn't get any cheaper than €1,00 a beer, at least.

Glasses are much better than bottles. If you want to just relax and drink a good beer, you really need a glass. And if you want to drink fast and get drunk, you need a glass too because you simply can't drink fast from a bottle.
...So I guess if you don't want to get drunk AND you don't want to enjoy the taste of your beer, a bottle would be okay:hmmm:

Seriously now:O:, you shouldn't drink the better, more expensive beers from the bottle. If you really want to enjoy the taste you should take a glass (yes, you can taste the difference. Especially in the case of white beer)

Besides, Hoegaarden has already got a slightly lemony taste, so I can't really see the added value.

[...] and I've known too many alcoholics.ahem:oops: I generally drink around 5 days a week, usually 3-6 pilsner a day, Thursday night 20-30:oops:

now where do you guys think the border between being an alcoholic and not lays?
IMO, as long as you drink with friends, for the fun of it or to really enjoy your beer, and can stay without alcohol for a while, you aren't an alcoholic no matter how much or how often you drink.
If, however, you drink on your own, to drink away your problems, and you can't live without alcohol, you are. Even though you may drink much less then someone who isn't an alcoholic.

I only drink with friends, and can easily stay without alcohol for 1 or 2 weeks (yes I actually do that once in a while), so using my own definition that would render me not alcoholic:yeah:

Ah, the good old student time:cool:
Something tells me that the moment I finish my study, all that partying and going out and drinking is gonna stop real soon:-?
Luckily it's gonna take some years before it is that far:D

That's a good question, there are many different opinions on this matter and the doctors and scientists have yet to come to agreement on this, but for me, I would say that if you must have a drink everyday, however little then you are an alcoholic. (IMO)

And I drink on my own a lot when I drink because I find very few people here in Plymf that I actually enjoy drinking with

Also, Hey you're a student! you are meant to be having a good time with your friends, just watch out for that daily habit.

This is one of the problems with diagnosing alcoholism, there are no universal signs that can be measured.

One school of thought is to follow the criteria in the DSM IV, for other disorders, in that a person is an alcoholic when he or she

1. Their drinking causes social, legal, economic, or business problems (a disorder) and

2. The person recognizes that their drinking is the cause of this disorder, and

3. The person has tried to stop/control drinking and

4. Is unable to stop or control their drinking

However, this is a less than satisfactory criteria.

This problem with diagnosing alcoholism is one of the reasons some practitioners do not like characterizing alcoholism as a disease, but more along the lines as an addiction or in some cases a compulsion.

The problem is that alcoholism is all of these and more. There is much the medical and psychological world still needs to understand about alcoholism.

I'm 19 and don't drink...there's already enough kids getting boozed up in this town underage (the pregnancy rate of our particular county shows it) I would prefer not to join that certain statistic. I just find the right friends to drink with. All my friends are nice responsible people (even when drunk) who'll never get you into trouble. And who care for you and get you home, should something go really wrong.
(Oh yeah, you don't really have to worry about joining the pregnancy rate statistics, sledge:O:

However, I mix drinks (Manhattan up, anyone?) for my mom and I enjoy a glass or two of wine on holidays.Don't know why but mixes give me headaches. Gimme a mix and 3...2...1...POOF within 3 quarters my head is bursting.
I can drink strong drinks (whiskey, tequilla, etc.) with no problems, but mixes are a quite different story...

I'm still a guy but I'm looking at it from the "I don't want to be screwed over buying diapers and toys and books and cars and all the other things that comprises being an american teenager for the next 18 years" side of the fence.

As far as I'm concerned, alcohol and sex don't have very much to do with each other.
(okay, maybe you get a little more 'loose' and do things you normally wouldn't likely do, but I've never in my life done anything I really regretted when drunk. I can still think when I'm drunk, so generally I'll never do insensible/irresponsible things. If I had sex with a girl while I was drunk, it would be with a girl I would have sex with if I were sober)
