Screens - vids - even a word from on high at Ubi
But
The silence is deafening

I don't see 'demands' achieving much in the way of a response....a cordial request might carry a little more weight though.
Even steam can be used in offline mode.
DRM is good for the first few months of release but then it should be canned. This online save game idea does not allow that.
If it matters to anyone I've moved from pre-ordering to wait until it's bargain bin. My enthusiasm for this game sunk...
I only wish Enigma rising tide did better. Those guys were true fans of the genre.

After the breach of trust that's happened in these forums, I'd say we are in absolutely no position to "demand" anything.

By game play video, I would want to see the game played at the higher realism settings and show the target tracking, plotting, and manual targeting aspects of the game.
I am not interested in glitzy graphic eye candy! I am interested in how SH5 will simulate the important aspects of submarine control.
It is almost one month before release. I would hope that some developer/tester has played this game, at least a little, on the higher realism levels.

So if we get a 45 min. video of everything on ultra-realistic setting,
but there is still a need for permanent connection,
what's it gonna solve.
People will still beat that poor dead horse no matter what is shown now.

A subsimmer is serving brig time for sending a somewhat provocative PM to a dev, then publishing the devs PM response on the forum.
Very uncool.

Yes, "demand" may have been a poor choice of words but at this point I don't care how marvelous SH5 will look or play. I don't support this form of DMR and will not do so again (I did buy RoF) with my wallet. If that means I'll be missing out on all the latest and coolest games I can definitely live with that. I have more than enough right here to keep me happily entertained until I die and voting with my wallet is the only true effective way to clearly get my opinion across to those that can actually change it.
I demand noothingz but: :haha:Moo, :haha:Moo, :haha:Moo.
I'm with Avatar.
Until issues are resolved, I don't give a damm what the game looks like.

Very uncool.Oh yeah. I saw that actually, that was crazy! I love the part where The Dev says 'You're not in a position to call me Dude'. I thought that was very cool.
I just got out of The Brig myself for making fun of Dowly and Australia (How could I?! :03:), but I would never do anything like that! Neal should just bann that guy altogether.
Anyway, on topic I voted that 'It'd be nice to see a vid, but I could live without it'. Not long to go now 'til the game comes out and of course I'm gonna buy it, what true subsim fan wouldn't?
My pc cannot run the game anyway , but a new game play movie would be nice. :salute: /voted

He is enthousiastic, and i give him that.
Wish i could say the same about me, but to feel insulted/treated as a not-true-subsim-fan...
Both of us got a thicker skin than that.
:03:
Isn't a PR trick, that if something goes wrong, you quickly do something else to divert attention to said problem? We see it time and time again in other situations... Doesn't always work but it's worth a try. I think the Ubi PR people are sleeping on this one.

Yes, either a cunning plan, or incompetence. Ubisoft have had lots and lots of 'cunning plans' in their past. I have often read on other forums when people rant that they will never again buy a Ubi product due to Ubi's sheer brilliance with PR campaigns.

Yes Demand is indeed a bad choice of words. But what i mean by this poll is to show the demand for a gameplay movie. I mean i just dont anderstand why we dont get anything at all while this would surely to a certain extent turn this DRM thing around a bit and have people focus on the features on sh-5 that make the game. I mean i getting tired of this whole DRM thing and all the posts sem to be about this one way or another. But if they dont give us anything else to talk about this will remain the same i guess. I,m sure the devs and ubi are somewhat carefull as to what they should give us now , but i,m sure not giving us anything at all is always the worst thing to do in the end.

so you consider 80% of your fellow community here as "not true subsimmers"?Are you suggesting that 80% of the Community are not going to buy SH5? If so, I think you are very wrong. I think you are in the minority.
To clarify, I am suggesting that anyone who does not buy SH5 can't really love Subsims, what else is there!? You guys can't exactly afford to be picky! The Silent Hunter series is the best subsim series there has ever been! What are you talking about?! This can't be just the language barrier.
If you can afford a computer powerful enough to run SH5 smoothly (Even I can't at the moment and I have a dual core processor and 8000 Series NVidia Card), you can afford broadband internet connectivity. The majority of people who will buy SH5 have broadband. It's 2010, broadband has NEVER cut-out on me, so to suggest that DRM (or whatever the hell it's called) is a problem is completely ludicrous to me.

How would people afford broadbend connection if there is no line?

Do they pose conditions and restrictions... in starting and parking?

I think you should give consideration to the fact that many people aren't on broadband connections because of it's cost or possibly even the fact that it might not be available in their area.
Even with a broadband connection you have failed to recognise the vital ingrediant.....the Ubi server, will it work trouble free and will it be able to supply enough capacity to meet the expected demand.
Personally, I'm currently on a 50MB connection but that will mean squat if I'm locked out of the server.

Speak for yourself, I know a restaurant near where I live that serves chow just about like I ate aboard the USS Sarsfield EDD 837 in 56-57. ( sig. )
We had better food on that DD than some superior restaurants in the world.:D
Although I can not say that about eating on the base at Key West were we were stationed at the time.
I really did want SHV but now I find out the chow is poisoned, so forget it unless the OSP/DRM or whatever they want to call it is removed period.:arrgh!:
Now excuse me for its chow time here. :DL

There are people, like me, to whom the requirement for internet connection is a minor annoyance compared to game play.
If, and a huge if that is, SH5 turns out to be a really good simulator, with good game play at the realism levels I am looking for, with more actionable features (working hydrophone, better plotting capabilities, etc.) I would probably deal with the annoyance of a permanent connection.
I won't like it, but I can compromise on this.
However, connection or no connection, if SH5 is a crappy graphic focused arcade game, the issue of connection won't even come up.
That's why I want to know more about the game playing aspects of the game. Perhaps I am alone in this or not. I won't speak for other Simmers.

Your doing well so far. I feel the same way. I have no problems with my Internet now, I upgraded my cell phone. But there are still a lot of people that don't and I don't think that they should be left out.
I'd like to see a new movie, I just don't think it would quell any of the **** storm around here lately.
No news may be good news, but in this case it just makes me worry more.

If you're dissmissing Sh5 without even playing it, then I am flat-out telling you you're not a subsim fan.
That's nice of you. I frequently question my own state of mind...it's so helpful to have a complete stranger tell me what/who I am and what I think.
Here I was thinking my having played Silent Service, AoD, 688, Red Storm Rising and Silent Hunters 1 - 4 might have qualified me as a subsim fan, but clearly I was mistaken.
Thanks for clearing that up for me. Should prevent any cognitive dissonance I might otherwise experience when discussing subsims....
:D
I don't really care about SH5 anymore.
Expect another buggy release with major technical and gameplay problems that'll never be fixed. Even worse, this time the game is cut in half and will contain some draconian type of protection system.
SH3 was a hit, mainly because of nice graphics and random freeplay campaign. They decided to leave it in unfinished state, though -- not caring much of our opinions. Some serious problems were not fixed even in last patch 1.4b (1.4 beta (!) ).
SH4 failed in many ways, because the developers decided not to learn from their mistakes. This time, we've got even buggier and incomplete game. And I don't think most of us really care about that Pacific campaign. The whole thing was a mistake.
Now, they trying to sell the same thing again, with slightly polished graphics and unnecessary 3d-action elements, targeted at casual gamers.
No gameplay video can change the simple facts.
