and im having problems, duh, everytime i unload my weapons, i slightly rotate my Handle and my rudder moves slighty, messing up my aim, is there anyway i can lock the rudders in place? cause the handle is so sensitive atm, really messes it all up

the Joystick i use is a Logitech Extreme 3D pro Twist handle Joystick.

Thanks!

I had a similar problem with that joystick, maybe it's common thing with that model.

You could try adding dead zone on the yaw axis in Options - Input from IL-2 main menu. :)

Reading this thread alone is a source of affliction as I've reinstalled my old IL-2 Forgotten Battle and Ace expansion pack again...Damn it :DL

I just download IL2 - 1946 from steam last night. Before work I decide to skip the tutorials, since I've been flying flightsims since the original sub logic version on a commodore 64.

I just pick some unknown Russian plane, and start the mission. It's a bi-plane. I wait for the other aircraft to get out of my way, take off, climb out a bit, make a real hard left to see if there are any blackout effects, and the next thing I know, I'm in a spin. I almost recovered. Didn't know where the bailout key was, either... if that would have done any good.

It's been a long time since I've crashed a plane. :oops: This might be awesome.

That plane would be the I 16, or the I 153... both little fireballs.:rotfl2:good luck.
welcome to Olegs world. lol

Took a while, but I finally was able to get some buttons programmed for IL2 (I also have the Logitech Extreme 3d Pro). Couldn't do it from within the game, but I got it to work with Logitech Profiler. Pretty happy about that, since I'm used to controlling the elevator trim and flaps especially from the joystick.

Do you guys actually land these planes? I have tried 3 times to do a carrier landing in a corsair and so far no luck. Also, is my tail hook going to work? In the controls section that thing is blank. :doh:

IIRC theirs a key to program to lower hook. I think ?

Sorry alot of help I was. :doh: Will reload game and have a looksee. :yep:

If i nthe controls something is showing as blank then you need to set a key for it.

Some useful (Default) keys for you:
CTL + E = Bail Out
Shift + F1 = Centre Gunsight (useful on 109's)
F = Flaps UP
V = Flaps DOWN
G = Gear UP/DOWN
C = Change crew position (pilot/gunners etc.)
CTL + D = Recticle Dimmer (Luftwaffe fighters)
CTL + L = Cockpit Lights

Hope that helps, and welcome to IL2: I am sure you will enjoy it a hell of a lot!

Thanks, funny, I was trying to set the HOTAS controls, thinking they would work with my logitech and no joy (but got that figured out via the logitech software... I was amazed that profiler thing worked, lol). Imagine my shock when I had elevator trim and flaps control on my joystick. :rock:

For some reason I didn't think to just try to set a keystroke for the blank ones, like the tailhook. If that works, I should be able to transfer control over to the joystick again, I hope. I'll give that a shot. Thanks!

Edit: It worked. I set the "toggle arresting hook" or whatever it was to Alt + T, then went to logitech profiler and set one of my buttons to be that. Nice!

No worries! I saw where it says toggle tailhook or whatever, just that it was blank. Didn't think to set that up myself... :salute:

You can assign most things to a stick: if you've got enough buttons of course!
It's all down to personal preferance really: I have my controls all set between my stick, keyboard and mouse but others prefer full hotas.
If you start using teamspeak for online flights etc. then that can also be set up for hotas control by emulating key strokes: just takes a while to get it setup and recognising it all.

Hell, shameless bit of advertising and all that: if you ever find yourself wanting some co-op styled IL2 feel free to check out JG53, link in my sig: there are quite a few subsimmers with us of varying activity levels: Failing that there is always the subsim "lolwaffles" found in one of the stickies at the top of this forum - multiplayer is certainly a lot more challenging and enjoyable than solo play :yeah:

Thanks a lot for the invite. I read the manual this morning cover to cover, and it sounds very interesting.

I'm still learning the very basics. I nailed my first and only carrier landing last night... i'm about 1 for 8, LOL, and I haven't even sat in a 109 since Aces over Europe circa 1995. But after I get the hang of it I'll definitely look you guys up. :up:

Cool stuff!
You'll find that we recruit a wide variety of skilled pilots from guys who are brand new to those who are veterans of IL2.
Our training officers, and of course our general membership, are always ready to help out those with questions or difficulties: landings are one of the big things in IL2, very difficult to master but once you;ve cracked them you'll wonder what you had trouble with!
Keep at it and you'' find the IL2 109 a very versatile and dangerous beast!V

Hmm... any tips I could give with those carriers...

well, first dont go too slow, you might stall in the last second and re decorate the carrier, and your plane. keep it around.. IDK, 170-190 kms... I guess plane pending...

next try to keep abit level with the plane, slowly decent flaps down, gears ready, tailhook down

ok so your getting close, put down gear (unless your Oberon, dosent matter then.:rotfl2:)

So your about to touch down, drop throttle pull back to catch the rope, be prepared to gun it and go around...

Oah yea, with for the best. lol

I'm getting better... eject button programmed right where my thumb lays helps. :haha:

Hey are the carrier (or coral sea) replays geeked? I had recorded some landings on Okinowa and they were fine, but for example I'll record a flight and it will just have me decend and keep right on flying, but underwater, lol... speed 400, altitude -10???? Water splashing all over the place, and no cockpit view.

So yeah, even after a restart, NO carrier based replays work for me. I took off, and landed (not dead, but not pretty) and when I replay the track it just has me flying off the end and into the drink. What's up with that? Is it just me? :timeout:

Try setting them recording as you start the mission rather than use the after missions save track button.
Also I have found .NTRK recordings are more reliable
