Maybe we shouldn't use the word DRM. We've been using games with DRM for a looong time. I want DRM for SH5. I don't want OSP :D SO Ubi, please bring back Starforce :har:
I was first :D Prepare your phaser, we'll be meeting Kapitan_Phillips tomorrow at dawn :D http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=160967&page=4

The new StarForce used with DCS:Black Shark for example!
- only one online activation is needed
- DVD must not be in drive while playing
- no SF drivers are installed on you system
- you can play offline

That's funny, because not so long ago the idea of having to activate my game on the net was already too much for me and I think for a lot of people, but today this sounds absolutely great compared to Ubi's DRM/OSP.

Wife walks in: "Honey, what's that blonde doing?"
Me: "She's from Ubisoft... a new DRM policy, part of OSP. She's making sure I don't pirate their software."
Wife: "How long is she gonna be here?"
Me: "Well... as long as I have an Ubi Account. Can't just sell or give the game away to get rid of her, either."
Wife: "Why's she got that glove on?"
Me: "Um... when I open each game, they want to make sure I haven't stowed any copies away..."

Ok folks, I see I am not the only one here to have an instinctive distrust of marketing hype and speeches by corporate and political parties, aka 'spin'.:nope:
A common tactic used by those who seek power over others, who wish to impose say, 'dictate A' over people, which they know will cause anger and resentment among the masses, is to let slip that they are planning to impose 'dictate B', which is far more draconian than 'dictate A'. This causes great anger and resentment amongst aforementioned masses.
The powers that be, eventually , kindly explain to the masses that they are a listening, benevolent power, and have shelved any plans to impose 'dictate B', but will only bring in a 'dictate A', according to the wishes of the people.:salute:
The people feel they have won a victory, they feel that perhaps they were too eager to distrust this listening, benevolent power.:yeah:
The power gets their 'dictate A' without a revolution. :hmmm:
Anyone else here getting the same vibes, or am I just an old cynic ?
I guess you are referring to the no post 43 gameplay and one sub?
Nah, thats a bit tin hat. If so they wouldnt have announced this DRM-scheme for ALL Ubi titles from now on. It will spread all over the internet, far larger numbers than our small enclave will go bonkers.

Well, I just posted this in the official facebook fan page, naively hoping the message will get through...
Since this is the official page for Silent Hunter, this message should get through. If Ubisoft really wants copyprotection, then have a look at the activation process of Windows. Within the first 30 days, the user activate the software ONCE, and it's validated every now and then when the user gets the updates. Ubisoft should definitely do the same. Much more user friendly. Just a good advice. As it is now - DRM/OSP or whatever - very few will buy it; me included. Thank you.
And no, I don't want Starforce back.

@ stabiz
Well, not really, I put the no post 43, and only one sub thing down to time and dev money constraints, with the idea that if the basic original SH5 went well, then further add-ons would be worked on and released. If the basic sim was a good un, I have no problems with that whatsoever.
What I was trying to get across was that perhaps, this was just a way to re-introduce an unpopular DRM such as starforce.
