Photo Query

I'm off Tsuraka harbour, on photo recon, my Scope marker is green and locked, on a ship. Do I have to wait until the photo icon lights up? I ask this because I tried to take a photo and had a crash to desktop, with, as I said, all conditions seeming to be 'go'
