with a trembling hand i just made out my 4th quarter 2009 check to the IRS.

the bastards are doing EVERYTHING they can short of military action to kill small business in America.

I literally just HALVED my business account balance for these jerks. :shifty:

why should i even work if im just going to have to hand half my profits over to this broke ass government?

Because

1. You garner the advantages of what your taxes pay for (whether you acknowledge it or not)

2. You still have the other half of your profits.

That's why you should continue to work.

Hope and change brother.
How about them tax cuts for the middle class, huh?
Oh wait - you must be one of those rich guys who makes over 250K and thats why your taxed high. Of course, you get stuck when they count ALL revenue as "making over 250K" because that doesn't count all your expenses for RUNNING your business.
Remember what the President said last night - he hasn't raised taxes ONE DIME!
(Apparently dimes were too small - so he did it in increments of ten dollar bills.)

Are we sure that wasn't "Hope to have some change left"?

Just think what it'll be like when he does raise taxes.
Got to pay for all those give aways some how.
And he's still at it, 8 Billion for rapid transit that won't be built for many years.
That's creating jobs??????

Small biz is not dead, it is just going underground.

It is rapidly looking like you have to play the odds. If you play honest, they take your money. If you go underground and they catch you, they take your money. But the trick is, they have to catch you first.

I know of SEVERAL small businessmen that have just shut the doors. They are doing the same job as they did before, but they are doing it by themselves for their own gain. They just scaled back to not be overloaded.

One landscaper I know just let his entire 60+ man crew go, and it doing it on his own now. He let his former help work out a deal with the clients that he can not handle. They are all still working, but not as one company. They help each other as needed, but on a cash basis.

According to him, he is doing far better now. He covers his bills and such, but he does not have the taxman on his case every quarter for his 'fair share'.

How long till more people start a simple 'at home' biz and work for cash? I know at my place of work, I have seen a slow but stead gain in the number of cash transactions. People who would buy on a card are now paying cash, and LOTS of it.

Just wondering.

They are not really your profits until you have paid all dues. Pre-tax profits are pretty meaningless

As it was the last quarter does it include other taxes for the whole year as well as the last section of your business income tax?

Oh wait - you must be one of those rich guys who makes over 250K and thats why your taxed high. Of course, you get stuck when they count ALL revenue as "making over 250K" because that doesn't count all your expenses for RUNNING your business.

Since the 250K statement wasn't about this particular form of tax then then thats irrelevant.

but the government taxes small business into oblivion.

There is so much truth in this one sentance.

It's almost as if they despise buisness... oh wait they do :nope:

Good luck to you GR !

but the government taxes small business into oblivion.

That's assuming that the businesses are even paying their tax.

cf Comparison of the Reported Tax Liabilities of Foreign- and U.S.-Controlled Corporations,1998-2005 - GAO July 2008

Sure there are those 'fly under the radar' types but there the minority.

Most are law abiding tax paying buisness.

oh was there supposed to be a link?

I pay my taxes, i do it right, i play by the rules.

On top of about $30,000 per year in operating expenses inherent to the type of business im in...

i pay thousands of dollars per tax quarter into Social Security, medicare and income taxation.

in the end, my profit margin is very small due to these factors.

small enough at this point that there is almost no justification for me to be in business.

Im going to see how most of 2010 goes... i suspect it will be more of the same.

It will be interesting to see what my refund is.

I got information on my refund today. $3,256; only lost $118 to taxes. And the best part is it's going to be a direct deposit. So now I've got enough to pay for a new windshield and finish repairing my roof.
