Persistent online savegames across different PCs?

Hey guys,


Quick question. I'm seeing some hidden potential with this always online thing. Granted, I do have a stable internet connection (*knock on wood with fingers crossed*).

I have two PCs at home, one being a desktop and another being an older gaming laptop which should still be able to run SH5 decently well. Whenever the wife tells me I can't be on the desktop all evening, I join her on the couch with my laptop, obviously. (Two husband of the year awards and counting.)

If I get this right, I'll actually be able to simply continue my 1:1 campaign right there on the couch and switch between PCs whenever I like?

If so, I might actually be looking forward to this whole online thing.

You could always use a flash drive to move your save from one computer to the other as well. Would be just as easy. Even better if you're on a home network you could do it over your home network.

Well, sure, it's what I used to do with SH3.

It's not impossible, just impractical.

not sure why its impractical? a keychain thumb drive costs under $10 and can always be on your person and in 2 seconds you can copy your documents sh3 or sh4 file and thats all your saved game files so any computer with sh3 or sh4 loaded on it can load your saved games from your drive.

if your saying DRM could be a nice feature i say yes it could, but only IF it is made optional so those who cant or dont want to use it arent forced to use it.

I spend four hours getting into position to attack. The convoy is right above me. I am at periscope depth. server goes down , I lose connection, but game is auto-saved.

Now...If it is like any other SH, once I load my save, it will automatically put me on the surface, not at periscope depth where I saved, so I get my ass handed to me by a convoy opening up on me while I try to dive.

past history suggest this is a very likely scenerio but i give the devs the benefit of the doubt that such obvious problems wont happen but maybe something just as important will have bugs because they had to make things like that work ok

Sorry guys, but i do not see the devs putting that much forethought into it anymore. If they did not know anything about the DRM choice, why would they implement features to skirt around it?
