very nice
I would rather see them addressing the concerns of the community

i would rather see some gameplay footage! Thats what the community needs right now.
Any other time and I would be singing the praises of ever screen about,
but a little of the magic has gone to say the least. :shifty:

Thx tonyj :salute:
Just so I understand. I have to go to Ubi SHV site for latest News and features.
Or wait until it dribbles down to SubSim.

The only problem i see (sorry if i sound picky) is that the waves look like scaled up versions of small waves, making the ship look like 1/90 model of the real thing.
Far worse is though what GoldenRivet is showing us though,it is terribly possible scenario.

you know what's great about this? it demonstrates why we should have such great expectations for UBI's online servers...I'm trying to look at the pictures of the Littoro battleship and the pictures won't load...period... :woot:
(edit: to be fair I think it's that the images are on photobucket and that's blocked by my admin)

And isnt that the reasurance you need.Dont worry about your connection fails.UBI is always there for you, they will fail you before you know it. lol

Not a bad looking ship at all
Though would like to see some merchants as these are bread and butter for a sub commmander if lucky will see a battlewagon once at sea
Still at one a week we at least get to see another 5 before release
will see a battlewagon once at sea if lucky
In the all-action laser gun fest that SH5 may be, you might find you
'dynamically' see quite a lot of battlewagons.

...and then you'll be able to KEEP looking at it as your computer repeatedly tries to reconnect with UBI

LOL @ GR
On topic:
Niiice shots. I've been wondering, seeing the latest shots, are those clouds volumetric? :hmmm: They look it! :D

I would be veeeery surprised if they where not particle based.
If your not going to be inside the cloud and there is no complex lighting going on, there is no good reason to have it truly volumetric.

They do look like that.It would be nice to see aircraft plunging down on you from a cloud :)
Actually can anyone say few words about whats the diference between volumetric and particle based ?

love the next post right after your picture I've posted on the UBI forum (without any title or quote, just the single picture with no comments):
"??????????????????"
:har::haha:
He didn't even figured it out lol Seriously, the overall IQ here at subsim is SO way above most of ubi's forum members... no wonder they got some stupid Q&A and go in the arcadish directions sometimes!

Volumetric atmosphere effects are spread equaly in the 3d space the
inhabit. They have no bitmapped textures and no geometries. Their
appearance is defined by colour and distribution alone.
They react to light well and take up lots of GPU time.
Particle based atmosphere effects use 2d or 3d geometry and clever
transparent textures. They react to light badly and can look off up close
or when moving through them, but can look better in cases where a
complex texture pattern is required.

Yeah, that's what I meant.

A particle is flat, and is usually always turned to the camera. A volumetric particle, or "voxel", is a sphere and can be shaded as such, which looks better but runs slower.
Edit:
Yeah, what Letum said (cross posted).

Oh oh... Oopsy..!
@GoldenRivet (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/member.php?u=229874)
Looks like your picture at the UBI forum quite "disapeared" somehow into the twilight zone or something... Censorship maybe? :D
Woooow that's almost more than an hour online!
Call Guiness book! :03:
last minute: Even the "??????" answer and my following "oops... The new DRM messed up..." got deleted a brief time after, just so nobody is asking why there's a strange answer without apparent context eheh
A particle is flat, and is usually always turned to the camera.
Not always.
Quite oftern they use 3d geometry to avoid having to turn to camera.

Thanks very much ive got the idea of it.If im not wrong the whole sky in sh3 was one big particle based sky.
Well im pretty happy with the graphics on sh5, no question there.

Not really.
So far as I can tell, SH3 has a sky dome and one or more cloud planes.
Very, very simple, but not utterly ineffective.

Oh, you nitpicker. If it's 3D then it's not a particle, it's a mesh! ;)

http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/2048/ubi2.jpgAs I said in another thread, with piracy being the way it is right now, complaining about anti-piracy measures is like complaining about having to take your shoes off before boarding a plane.
Your purchasing choices decide how long this policy continues.
Indeed.
