View Full Version : When will you buy the game? And if? And why/why not?

Given that SH5 is a completely new game, which satisfies some, but dissapoint others, then let's get some numbers on the table. I allready made a similar poll recently, but new facts (or rumours) are on the table, so the poll is hereby reset, so you can vote again in this new poll. The old poll can be found here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=160469
It will be fun to compare... :03:

Before you vote: it's a multi choice poll. For some choices, they can be interpreted as a reason for others it's a choice. F.i. you can vote 1+3 or 1+2 or 1+2+3 for the positive votes. For the negative answers, you have two choices 4 or 5. For those with mixed feelings, you have 6 + 7/8/9/10 OR just 7/8/9/10. This is a suggestion for you how to vote. But you may do as you see fit.

Thank you.

1) I'll buy it asap no matter what.

2) I'll buy it, after having read the first user comments.

3) I'll buy it, just to support subsim games.

***

4) I'll not buy it, the uboat side ain't my favorite.

5) If released as planned, I'll never buy it no matter what.

***

6) If released as planned, I'll buy it, once the price is reduced.

7) I'll buy it, if the dev team and ubisoft delay the release, in order to add the missing uboat types.

8) I'll buy it, if the dev team and ubisoft delay the release, in order to add the missing uboat types AND/OR if they cancel the decision about the DRM OR choose a more player friendly solution.

9) I'll buy it, if the dev team and ubisoft delay the release, in order to add the missing uboat types AND the rest of the war.

10) I'll buy it, if the dev team and ubisoft delay the release, in order to add the missing uboat types AND the rest of the war AND if they cancel the decision about the DRM OR choose a more player friendly solution.

Missing one obvious option: will buy it as it is when/if DRM is removed.

Can't please all. 10 options is max. Sorry. :-?
I think option 8 is the closest option then, though you don't mind about the missing types.

I think you missed the most important poll option.

Okay, I have edited option 8, so it says AND/OR.
That should do it. As I said, only 10 options.

I voted #10.
I don't make my money easy and really don't like the idea of being guinea pig for $59.99. Off the subject: Can somebody finally make complete SH3+GWX widescreen mod? :)

#8 and #10. I'm not happy with some of the choices they've made, but the DRM is what really changed my mind. Without that I was going to buy it no matter what.

When will publishers learn?

As usual, those that obtain the software illegally will not deal with DRM. However, by including DRM the publisher ensures only those customers who purchase and support their products are burdened and forced to deal with the DRM.

I don't mind the missing boats. Just don't like DRM. So no. 8 is not my closest voting option.

Same here. Nothing but VIIs? Fine by me. Ends after May 1943? Not a dealbreaker.

The DRM as described thus far? I'll pass.

Chances are I would've needed to upgrade a few things on my end for it to run as well as I'd want it to. Wouldn't have done that for a while, but might still have bought the game now just out of curiosity and anticipation.

Now I'll wait and see if there comes a time when the DRM is no longer an issue - and if so, by then the game will probably be cheaper and I'll be more willing to upgrade HW to play it with all the bangs and whistles enabled.

To be honest? After all the missteps they've made I don't know what they can do to bring me back on board. Because, given their history, especially with the ham-handed way they are bringing this game out, how can we trust them at all?

I wasn't happy with the stuff that we knew before. But the DRM is a real deal breaker for me. I can't accept that at all.

Another Poll same opinion....No buy untill NO DRM the rest I can live with b/c of modders but as long as there is DRM ther will be slow to no modding

you could buy the game and support the devs
and still play without DRM if you know
what i mean.

How?

I assume that vickers03 is referring to "things" which are not spoken out loud here at this board.

I would have voted for the:

I'll wait for the game to be release, I'll check reviews elsewhere and comments here by credible members, then I'll make a decision.

But since this wasn't an option...

I simply didn't vote.

I voted 8, but I only want the DRM gone. Seriously the crap we'll have to put up with almost makes it not worth getting the game.

I voted Buy asap of course! This game is gonna be awesome and you're all gonna look like mugs when the reviews come out and they're all brilliant! I'll be waiting outside for the software store to open on the day of release. Just like I do everytime there's a new Silent Hunter game. Can't wait!:yeah:

If you guys cause even 1 hour of delay in it's release I am gonna be pissed!

The insane DRM is a deal breaker for me. This is the first time I will pass on a SH title.

But hey, GWX for SH4 will probably be great.

#5: After seeing how the project was handled, right from the start, Ubisoft has lost any confidense I may have had in them. I was looking for an expansion, improvement, and corrections to SH3. Ubisoft's SH5 appears to be one giant step backward.

As a side note, if I can't buy and own a game, as I can a book, I have zero interest in spending my hard earned money on it. I also have zero interest in doing business with a company that offers such an ultimatum. Bye Ubisoft.

I'll buy it after seeing how simmy the simulation part of the sim is.

At this stage the only thing that concerns me is the DRM, I will not go online to play a game as a single player!:yep: believe it or not I would prefer Starforce!!:-? My ISP is slow and often down, I live in the country and the exchange is 5km away so sometimes it drops out due to weather conditions, also the telephone lines are very old and I am often calling them out to fix them!:x

+ 1 Carotio, You missed the main point  My DRM problem - has nothing to do with Type IX... or 44/45

OKAY, OKAY, OKAY

Will this do then? Before setting up a new poll, which pleases everybody...
And please remember the forum only allows 10 options!!!!!!!
This way you can tick the box nr. 9 only f.i. if you don't care about the missing features.

1) I'll buy it asap no matter what.

2) After having read the first user comments.

3) To support subsim games.

***

4) I'll not buy it, the uboat side ain't my favorite.

5) If released as planned, I'll never buy it no matter what.

***

6) If released as planned, I'll buy it, once the price is reduced.

7) Only with the missing uboat types.

8) Only with the missing years.

9) Only without DRM.

10) If copy-protected, then only with a more player friendly solution.

I'd like to hear what the Ubi Devs have to say about all of this.

They've been a little scarce around here lately.

I hope they haven't been scared off.

Ill decide upon the Subsim review - Neal always seems to be in sync with my criteria...

So let me get this right.
(1) You will have to be connected to the internet to play SH5
(2) You will not be able to play any saved games unless you are on-line
(3) The only version of sub available is the type 7 (all classes)
(4) The war only go's as far as 1943
(5) The ships you are attacking will have damage bars showing above them
(6) You will be able to walk through the VIIC and interact with the crew
(7) The graphics of the game are improved over SH3

My Personal responses

(1) This screws anyone who has a slow connection or uses Dial-up.
(2) Kiss the last two hours of game play good bye the server has shut down for one reason or another.
(3) Disappointing as I like the IXC subs as well because they are more useful on convoy attacks having two rear tubes.
(4) So the players of SH5 are not expected to last any further then say mid 1942 then.
(5) Great so when you are attacking a target you will be able to imagine you are standing in a seaside arcade store playing the game on an arcade machine. will this mean you will have unlimited fast loading torpedoes to attack multiple targets at the same time if not then this feature is a waste of time.
(6) To make this worth anything it must randomize the responses of the crew and also react to orders given by the player or else it will become boring to say the least.
(7) From what I have seen this is true but if the rest is correct also this will also be a waste of time as most Sims players will not be seeing it as they will not buy the game.

Silent Hunter 1&2 I never played so no score Unknown
Silent Hunter 3 (un-Modded) 8/10
Silent Hunter 3 (fully Modded and with LSH3) 9/10
Silent Hunter 4 (un-Modded) 4/10
Silent Hunter 4 (patch to 1.4) 6/10
Silent Hunter 4 (Fully Modded) Unknown I got rid of it
Silent Hunter 5 Not promising at this time for sure
Predicted score 4/10 (unless changes are made)

So at this time SH5 is not worth buying unless you like arcade style games. :nope:

I regretted buying SH4 and I will not waste money on this version as it stands
Long live SH3 I say. :O:

I had issues/concerns about the one U-boat type and the 43 finish but the DRM takes the biscuit.

Starting to lean towards the position of...Undecided.

missing one opion "only buy it when the DRM is removed".
All other points are things i can live with or to be correct things like just a VII or game ends 43 are just things i cant really blame before i have experienced it. Sad that i will never do it until that permanent online thing is removed.

Seems like sh5 is not the subsim I waited for. DRM, stops at -43, only type VII submarine. Ubisoft talks about dynamic campaign probably not even knowing what it means.
This romanian guy from ubisoft said in interwiev that they are making a subsim whose player doesn't need to read 10 books about u boat warfare. My mind was made. I buy sh5 when it costs under 10 euros.

Not bothered about the missing boat types, the type VII has always been favorite so thats fines, however I will NOT buy unless they remove DRM, or find a way I can run offline :(

I chose i buy ASAP. I would also love to see without DRM but thats just not gonna happen. I would love to see all the other u-boat types and extended campaign , But if they implement that it could well take us to next year or worse.
