View Full Version : Quick question regarding difficulty levels
Where are they? I looked in the initial options menu, started a campaign and looked at the options there, and looked in all of the other menu areas. Can't seem to find them, and the manual seems to indicate that they should be right there.

They don't scream out at you from the main menu, that's for sure. :O:
Look at the bottom of the screens you go through as you're setting up to load a mission or career. Somewhere in one of them - I think it's the one where you also click "Start" to load the game, but on the opposite side of the screen - you should see something that says "Realism" or "Change Realism." Click on that and it will take you to the Realism settings where you can choose a difficulty level and/or turn certain options (like unlimited fuel, manual targeting, etc.) on and off.

Realism" settings can only be changed in base before you go on patrol,so before you load that game bottom right corner Realism"settings:up:

Welcome aboard Peron....I don't mean to confuse you but there is a way to have the options of your choice on or off and still choose the realism percentage.
Quite happy to explain further if need be.
Not confusing at all, that's what I would expect in a sim. Everything else I saw made reference to Difficulty Levels rather than Realism.
Anyway, thanks for the help, found it hiding in the Mission area.

I wouldn't mind an explanation myself, jimbuna! I do manual targeting only, but I would like to have my WO be able to identify ships through the scope for me sometimes. Don't want to take a realism hit for that, though, as I don't believe it's necessarily unrealistic.
How does one go about doing this?
Open up SH3/Data/cfg/GameplaySettings.cfg
You'll see a block of text down near the bottom that looks something like this
[RealismPercentage]
LimitedBatteriesRealismPercentage=10
LimitedCompressedAirRealismPercentage=10
LimitedO2RealismPercentage=10
LimitedFuelRealismPercentage=10
RealisticVulnerabilityRealismPercentage=10
RealisticRepairTimeRealismPercentage=10
RealisticShipSinkingTimeRealismPercentage=10
ManualTargetingSystemRealismPercentage=0
NoMapUpdateRealismPercentage=0
RealisticSensorsRealismPercentage=10
DudTorpedoesRealismPercentage=10
RealisticReloadRealismPercentage=10
NoEventCameraRealismPercentage=0
NoExternalViewRealismPercentage=0
NoStabilizeViewRealismPercentage=0
NoNoiseMeterRealismPercentage=0
NoWeaponOfficerAssistRealismPercentage=0
(The numbers probably won't match exactly, these are the settings from the assisted plotting mod, but you get the general idea!)
Those are your realism percentage settings.
Change to whatever numbers you prefer. I'd try and make sure it adds up to 100 if I were you. Dunno what would happen if you made it add up to 120?!
Please back up this cfg before changing!

You can set the figures for each line to suit your requirements but the sum total of the figures MUST ADD UP TO 100.
