Hiya folks. I dunno how the weather be treating you right now where you live. Out here in Iowa we're up to our eyeballs in snow and ice and, I'd imagine most of us are sick and tired of winter. :-?
Anyway, I thought I'd share a few pics from some of the news agencies around here. A story out of Mason City really grabbed my attention.

The Mason City Globe Gazette wrote an article and posted some video of the scene:

It surprises me how the weather can fool us at times. I guess we don't always expect to have whiteout conditions when a normal workday begins. The wind blows like all hell's insanity out here.
If you feel like posting pics and whatnot of the weather in your neck of the woods, please, by all means do so. If winter is as hardcore here as it is lately, it's gotta be just as hardcore or more (or possibly less) elsewhere in the world. :)
!Viva Winter!

I like how he made the site look "official"; as if it's actually coming from someone important in the scientific community and not just some guy from somewhere in Arizona. And he even included a "DONATE" button. It looks like the old background ChristianAnswers.net.

So you're saying it must be those evil evangelists then?
Nope, just the work of some conspiracy guy who lives in the middle of the desert and wants to draw people to his theories that it's all a huge political scam being conducted by dozens of industrialized countries the world over by setting up multiple fake websites which he tries to make appear official in nature and accurate in content.

Twenty-five below is a good number. Always wanted to visit Finland. Any good hiking there? :DL
Seeing some colorful posts and getting a good chuckle. "It's snowing cars?" :har: Thanks a-plenty. :)
Got a few more shares to post here. The blizzard has passed and it left a wake of destruction... pretty much the norm. :D My mother actually drove to work that day, about a hundred miles round-trip. She told me earlier this evening that the median and ditches were like a salvage yard with all the vehicles that had lost control. The wind was kicking up so much snow at times she couldn't see anything ahead, behind, or around her. Quite relieved that she came through safely.
Anyway, here are some links to the Channel 8 News website. I can't rip any of the photos. First link is a little slideshow of (yep, you guessed it; more wrecks) some of yesterday's excitement.

Second link is video of a large pileup that had part of the interstate closed down. Also some first-hand account from witnesses. Personally, I'd be scared to death in a situation like that. There may be a short advertisement before the footage loads, but usually not.

Been a crazy winter all around this year. Just thought I'd post something of it here and see what the rest of the snowed-in world is experiencing. Helps get me out of my routine world, I guess. :)
Global warming my rear-end... feels more like a new ice age is coming. Then again, I'm not a climatologist. At any rate I'd call it something more like "El Nino" or "Global Climate Upheaval" or something like that. My two cents. *shrug* :88)

We're still waiting for the flood here..weather forecast warned about extreme rain for three days but it went with only a day's hard rain. Now they are warning us for today and tomorrow.....so far it's sunny outside . . .:)

You (read: Iowa) made our local news broadcast this morning in SW Ohio.
We have not had it too bad here so far this winter, seems like all the big storms have either lessened in intensity by the time they get here, or the worst of 'em pass us by to the north or south.
One major snowfall a couple weeks ago where all the schools and a lot of businesses closed for a day or two, but they predicted it correctly so it wasn't a surprise when it got here.
The cold temps and wind chills have been worse to deal with than any precipitation we've gotten.

Yea I guess. Although if you were to go hiking off road today you'd need a pair of snow shoes (http://www.ecoprimalquest.com/wp-primal/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/snow-shoes.jpg). Or cross country skis (http://www.packshack.com/images/cross_country_skiers.001.jpg).

Ah now see, that's the stuff right there. Hey, lemme tell you of a mid-winter camping trip I took way back in high school!:rotfl2: It was a complete disaster! :D A pair of those snowshoes would have come in handy, to say the least.

so far winter in Vienna wasn't too cold.
the average temperature in the last weeks stays around 0°C (32°F), but there is light snowfall every now and then.
Germany had it pretty worse these days: in Berlin they got nights with a minimum of -20°C (~ 5°F)
brrrr, that's a bit uncozy!
