Surströmming...? :-?

Never again. Not in this life. Maggots and worms, if getting lost in the jungle, okay, at least you taste and feel that they are alive, but before ever approaching a can of Surströmming again, I would prefer to be dead.

Now, herring in cream with dill, that is something different. I kill for it.

Hey Guys:

I know I am very new here. However, I just felt the personal need to jump in. Regardless of the differences, and past actions, is it reasonable to ask you all to cease? I personally have had good communications with Firewall. That is really not the point of my post. I respect you all but hate the bickering and fighting, as I have been involved in lifelong battles myself. I guess I am just old and too sensitive to this kind of stuff.

Nobody's gangbanging you. It's just common courtesy to not quote multiple images on one's post for the simple reason that it takes space and others have to scroll thru the images to get to your post.

Bull !!! It's done all the time on many forums Here.

I'll leave it to the experts to show Link examples just for Fair Play.

It's done all the time.

I'm also tired of SS derailing good threads with, cheap shots about spelling and punctuality when he either doesn't like the poster or has nothing to contribute to same.

You of all people should know Dowly :-? It's done on the Helio site all the time.

Oh. and I edited my post just as WEBSTER advised. I just posted my opinion as SS did. :D

Steve helped me correct myself on the spelling of "gamut" in a post where I spelled it as "gammit". He queried as to what a gammit is. He was doing it without malice and he is simply trying to help people, and is good natured. That is my experience with him in that arena, speaking of which, "Sparticus" is on @ 10 local time this evening......

Btw, if you don't know what "vihta" is in the comic I posted then here's a picture. It's a bunch of leafy twigs or branches from a birch tree that you beat yourself and others with in the hot sauna. Why? I've heard a reason that the leaves give out a kind of soap that cleanses the skin.

True, it is, and people have pointed it out many of those times. In fact, a few years back, someone pointed it out to me when I did the same thing.

In my case I didn't go off on anybody or call them names, I just apologized and changed it.

As I do a lot here, because as it gets pointed out, I'm wrong a lot of the time.

I'm also tired of SS derailing good threads with, cheap shots about spelling and punctuality when he either doesn't like the poster or has nothing to contribute to same.
It has nothing to do with who I like or don't like, especially since there isn't anybody here I really don't like, and if there was I would just ignore them.

It just drives me crazy when I see large numbers of native English-speakers who write as if they know something, but can't even write their own language. Sorry if it offends, and I try to keep it down, but sometimes I just can't help it.

I recognise the part with rolling in the snow and then getting back in the sauna, my mother used to do that. And also the part with the vasta/vihta* :)

Ah, ok. Thank you. :)

Kaunein kuunnella, kuningas kieli.

That last sentence. This may be totally wrongly translated but I'll try.

Kaunein = bended form of kaunis = beautiful?
kuunnella = to listen?

kieli = language or tongue
kuningas = king?

It's beautiful to listen to the language of kings.

Is that right? :)

Quite a tricky language due to the many endings added to words.

OneToughHerring

FYI, the Finnish/Estonian word kuningas is quite similar to kuningaz, a proto-germanic word which preceeds the modern English word king. Kuningaz - cyning - king.

Or something like that.

Edit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanic_monarchy#Etymology

Almost.:DL

Beautiful to listen, king of languages.

It must be tricky to learn for a non native speker. But when you get it, you will find that its very flexible in every day use.

But heres the longest word for you that i know of.

I grew up bi-lingual, Swedish and Finnish. Nowadays it's Swedish and English plus some limited knowledge of various languages.

I should try talking more Finnish with my father, I speak more and more Swedish with him since I sometimes get stuck trying to find a word in Finnish.

That is indeed a long word! :haha:

Difficult to pronounce it fluently without pauses. :-?

I hope I won't be seen as "bumping" this thread, but I just found it the other day and had to find the artist that made the comics. I also remember someone much earlier in the thread wondering if the artist was kind to the USA, and as it turns out... America gets a raft of sh*t, too... :D

I linked the image to humon's (http://humon.deviantart.com/) DeviantArt page because her commentary gives the backstory to the comics' creation. :)
