Hello.

I've been out of the website for some time, and I've been playing SH4 until now.

I have read that SH5 is coming, and campain will end in 1943.

I don't mind having just one sub until 1943 if quality is real good for the sub interior and design.

Do we know if the devs will release an add-on that would go from 1943 to 1945 based on another submarine, like a type IX for example ?

I bought SH4 and really liked the US campain. I then bought the German-sub expansion for SH4 and it's really nice. The type IX is a joy.

I would love to play on a type VII until 1943 and then be able to move to an expansion with the type IX to play until 1945.

What are your thoughts ?

It would be nice to be able to START the war in a Type IX, AND play til 1945.

There is talk, rumor and hints about an add-on, but nothing is set in stone as of yet.

i would say step back , wait till we get sh5 out and to a good standard patches and bug fixes first.

Nobody knows for sure about an add-on. Obviously the devs ran low on time, if the add-on is reasonably priced (like shivering isle for Oblivion) then I would definitely consider buying it... :hmmm:

Welcome Aboard Gllbou :salute:

Still a little early for an addon at this stage but still fun to discuss.:yep:

iam hoping that the game will be modded to end in 45, and an addon for ix and wolfpacks

I'd like an type IX add-on, but the fact is that we don't know how sh5 actually is, because it has not been released yet. I think it's a too early to think about add-ons..

I would bet one of the first mods enables you to take a VII past '43... :arrgh!:

To do this, you'd need a campaign past '43... which might prove finicky to script, given the completly new campaign engine

Could it be that the Type II & IX are in the game but as NPC subs,
For example, they had time to complete exterior models but not the interior?
Or maybe they at least have them half finnished?
I wonder.....:06:

trough, it does get very hard in 43 and after, but thats when it gets really fun.

If SH5 sells well, then I think they'll be an add-on like there was for SH4.

Type IX boats were very successful in the first years of the war, with more range, speed and ammo load , one sub can attack a convoy night after night.
Perhaps the most successful boat of the war

they are missing an important part of the u boat history ( about 200 boats builded)

a type VII is a very limited war machine compared with IX and American fleet boats

does anyone know is there a type lx on display anywhere for the devs to study?:D

They have been there and done that.

I would venture to guess that Dan alone knows more about U-Boats than most of the people on this site put together.

I will buy Silent Hunter 5 even if considered a bit average because I really want companies like UBI to keep producing great sims. If they are a bit buggy I'm sure the talented modders can fix it.

On the topic of an add on for SH5, I think in this day and age were the almighty dollar rules, I think PC games have to be released with basic content as developers can no longer delay games ( Falcon 4) and remain financially viable. They have to get the product out there and then add to it in "Rise of Flight" fashion. It makes financial sense and let's face it UBISOFT doesn't make subsims because of a deep held fanatical interest in submarines.

At the end of the day as good as GWX3 is, I can no longer get it running on Windows 7 (yes, I have tried everything in posts to date). The same thing will happen to SH4 eventually which is why we need UBI to make these games.:salute:

Btw (OT real quick) did you try making a small partition on your Win7 and install XP and GWX on it. That way if you can still play GWX via XP. Unless there's some kind of bug with the dual booting, I never tried it.

i'm considering, but I would have to re-partition hard drive and I have heard others talk about dual OS and I don't think I want to go there.

Game until 1943 then an add-on ?

Nope, mods! :)

Seriously, im pretty sure they are going to release addons/DLCs. It is what most biggest console companies do and now Ubi does... I even smell 2 addons: 1939-41 and 1943-1945. Each one will otain 1-2 new subs, several ships and campain. Modders make a lot of more and they get nothing...:damn:

There are various campaigns in the game, no one like in SH3,

i think that they will release some DLC packs with more subs and campaigns

"Dan: In the game, the way the game will be launched, there won't be any way to be able to continue the campaign past 1943, but there is nothing stopping the modders from keep adding more content, which comes afterwards. There's no hardcore limit for how far you can play in the world, it's just how far OUR campaign goes."

If SH5 sells well, then I think they'll be an add-on like there was for SH4.

That add on gave us a completely different service in the same ocean. Hopefully we don't get Fleet Boats in the Atlantic in '41 as our first add-on (if we indeed get add-ons). I'd like to finish the war as one side first! :D
