I learned my lesson a long time ago. No cd/dvd means no purchase.

It's all got to come on one disk.

Depends on the perceived value. I'm no fan at all of "download for $" but I did buy a game that was download only (only once, First Eagles).

It's like online erotic sites compared to the woman you can feel and touch.
It's just not the same... :03:
Disc only, of course :haha:
I get most of my stuff online nowadays. I wouldn't mind.

If it ended up similar to this... http://riseofflight.com/en/store/planes
then NO WAY!
There's AU$130 of (what are IMHO core/essential) planes there! :o

I can put the files on a disc myself, to make sure I still have them if my HD crashed. Or just re-download (yes yes, "what if the server went down?", I know, that's why you burn it to disc :shifty:).
No objections to digital distribution here, but I'd definitly prefer a boxed copy.
I bought Shivering Isle expansion for Oblivion. If the price is good and the game is good, sure I'll buy it. But boxed (or burnable) not only direct download.

Whats wrong with a downloadable addon? Most of the FS expansions are this way and anything bad happens.A lot better, less time to get it and........imagine that Ubisoft starts developing single 3D platforms to implement into SH5,other subs, added ports,DDs,CGs,BBs..........wont you monitor such shipyard closely in order to download the vessels you like more?

..Intresting :hmmm: Im not sure what you like to get up to with your DVDs behind closed doors :haha:
Semi-seriously -I'm pretty sure everyone here is aware of the differences between a living breathing woman and a 2d representation of one. Its like comparing SHV to physically being aboard real Uboat (in the middle of a real war)
but there is almost no difference between having a bunch of files on a drive or a disc - it still is the same data. :D
So for me only difference is either owning yet another circular piece of plastic coated aluminum - or not
I have no problem with DLC, Its 2010, I say - Move with the times.
So long as game plays good why should I care about the format?

Yea dude but what if my stoopid bank wont gimme a credit card, cause i am still a fekkin student and onlly get minimum wage, yet have thousands on my account??:damn:
then a Digital download aint possible, and i need a Disk.
and i WANT a disk. even if i could download a game.
Well -Steam accepts Paypal so you dont need a credit card.

i dont download things for money. alas, until recently, i couldnt. many cannot.
I guess some folks are still attached to the idea of owning a physical object containing data - rather than just the data.
I just don't logically see any added value on having that extra 50 cents worth of plastic.
But each to his own...
Right now I would worry more about weather or not we get any addons at all, you can worry about the format later.

Sure... just Dl it... slap er on a disc, and make a document with its key... Wala, just as good as buying it without haveing to go to a store, or wait a year for the postal service to realise... Wait! there was a package!!!:o and sometimes the DL is cheeper than the buying it in DVD form...

first you have to get into the system so after you use a prepaid credit card for a full year they will start sending you every credit card there is, you just have to create a regular payment history first, so keep it at a steady balance and even thou you are paying in advance it shows you can make regular payments on the card. btw debit cards dont count for anything.

I'd buy a D/L addon, as long as I can burn the installation file to a CD (or otherwise transfer it to a backup medium) along with any serial numbers or what not.
I do not want to purchase an add-on that requires a third party to "authenticate" it, when third party may or may not exist within a few years or while I'm still interested in playing it, whichever comes last.
You wouldn't believe how much is done via DL these day's in IT.
OK with me!
if this is true i can imagine we will see bugs in these ad-on DLC not to mention how it effects the ability to use mods when everyones games has different content and you cant share DLC stuff in mods
I think Webster has a good point here.
IMO, there should have a single add-on that extend the war to it's end and that adds types II, IX and XXI.
----
Personally I can live with the type VII for the moment (of course if it was worth to focus on it) ;), when there will something new, I'll start a new career with another Uboat type and discover something else, it could even extend the game's lifetime.
But...
If they never create an add-on for missing years & Uboat types, Then it will be an outrage.
Webster

i dont mind not having the missing years, i think way too much is made about not having that full campaign to the end of the war and to be honest the war at sea was over by then anyway so it was more of a mopping up action then anything worth scripting so i can see why the devs left it out. dan did say we could add the rest of the campaign ourselves if we wanted to so they made it adaptable to modding for us.
the missing subs is what dissappoints me the most, i would probably use the type VII 90% of the time anyway but having the other boats adds to the game because you should have the choice to use other boats too but its not a deal breaker for me.
what i see in sh5 is they took all the wants and needs we gave them then decided somethings got to go to make room to do what we asked for and look at what they took out, the later years of the war when there is really no more war left for the uboats, and then they looked at the vast majority of players only used the type VII so if they were going to do a super detailed version of boats they can do it the best by only concentrating on THE most popular most widely used boat. the way i see it they made some very logical choices and left out things that caused people to bitch about but when you play the game i dont think you will miss them as much as you are thinking that you will
If they never create an add-on for missing years & Uboat types, Then it will be an outrage.
My guess is...It's all going to depend how well SH5 sells. If it sells well, we're going to see an add-on.

My thoughts too. If I can make a back up, that's fine. If not, weelllll....
I'd still prefer to have a disc-in-a-box to buy though.
As long as it's easier to get than SH4: U-boat Missions was. Now, THAT was awkward. I don't like having to get a hold of something that isn't distributed very widely, at least initially.

I voted yes, but, as 'MGR 1' has stated, with the above proviso.

If I can't hold the box in my hand I won't buy it.

I tried to get UBM on Steam, but they said I was outside of their distribution area. To be fair their customer service did everything they could to help, but no joy.
Salt Lake City, Utah, is outside of their distribution area?

I got SH4 add on 1.5 online and it didn't hurt too bad. Everything went fine. Along with a couple other download add ons for flight sims. So it isn't that big to me. I just keep everything backed up on my own disks.

What, you thinking about going into business and developing an d/l only add-on, now that you've established that there's a market? :rotfl2:
