Mindless Q and A nonsense from Ubisoft .
20.01.2010
Will it be possible to hear sounds like depth charge explosions and sinking ships (even whale songs?) with the hydrophone? This didn't work in SH3.
Negative on the whale songs, for now. However depth charges and sinking ships will most likely make it in, and overall we feel the hydrophone station / crew member will be more useful than in the previous games.
Will there be more atmospheric sound in the uboat compared to SH3? I'd like to hear some talking, laughing and snoring from time to time.
Since the player is free to roam in a 3D environment, that environment should be believable and immersive. Yes, those kinds of sounds are an important part for this and some of that will be seen / heard in the game.

basically they feel it's more important to listen when "Frenssen farts" than what's going outside of the sub?
after all they said you WILL hear the atmospheric sounds from within the uboat but the sound of depth charges will only "most likely make it in"
when Frenssen farts... get it? just like in Das Boot :haha: maybe you'll even be able to put an oxigen mask on...

To me how the hydropne works as well as the Peri and Uzo are more important than having all the rivets in the right place if you get my drift. :yep:

Oh what exciting news! Sounds in the boat, I certainly wasn't expecting that! Just imagine, we'll be able to sit at the Sound Operators desk, put on some headphones and actually listen to the sounds of depth charges and boats sinking....I tell yer, the person who thought that baby up should get promoted right now! :salute:

Most likely?!? They didn't say, will, they said most likely. Which leaves room for doubt that it might not.
I will not be surpised if SH5 ships with the sonarman NOT vocalizing "Depth charges in the water" . They did that in SH3 as i understand (later patched), the did it again with SH4 (and they never fixed it, so now we have this depth charge splash warning mod to work around it instead), So don't be surprised if it remains broken.

OH my God, Nothing satisfies you all does it. This is just ONE question session out of several.
The exterior sounds "might be making it in" is most likely due to programming problems, where having the interior sounds may be MUCH easier to impliment just due the nature of the coding required.
For crying out loud, give the devs a little credit.
Oh and please realize there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers.
These questioners had every right and reason to ask these questions, even if you would not have asked that.

True, i acknowledge that. However, what i'm talking about is functionality/features that are basic requirements to a submarine simulation. These are bugs that, if they do indeed still exist, should have IMO, given TOP priority. There is absolutely no acceptable excuse to have problems that are basic to the sim to continue to exist after all this time - none what so ever.

Two questions :DL.

Well, I did give the devs a lot of credit and that credit more than covers sound effects. If they can't do sound effects in a sub sim, then... erm... duh? After all, it's the sound of the ships sinking and screws overhead that are important, not someone snoring in his bunk. The devs know that. If they can't get the sound of ships sinking or depth charges in the hydrophone, then they are just messing with us by saying it's a sim. I mean, unless... hang on, I'm having a vision... there are no depth charges or sinking ships... OH MY GOD! Then there would be no need for those sound effects. Imagine SH5, without sinking ships, cos there wasn't time to put them in! Oh wow, that explains everything.
Really pretty ships, with no damage models, so none of them sink. Because none of them sink, no need for breaking up noises, also they don't need to do ASW duty if ships can't be sunk, no ASW duty = no depth charges. It's all so clear now. Wow, those devs are really clever - removing all that unnecessary stuff like that. Really makes sense.
These questioners had every right and reason to ask these questions, even if you would not have asked that.
Yes, that's true, but the counter point to that is - These are the questions that they chose to answer, out of all the options they had available.

Exactly... Which would you answer, the soft question or the hard question.
KK, so how many of you have posted questions, and what have you posted.
I will be honest I have posted none,
Ubisoft be absolutely foolhardy to put out something as incomplete as SH4 was. I still remember the dives of death just because the boat got hit by a few bullets from a plane. Or how about the crew staying on the bridge and getting gacked by depth charges. That was entirely unacceptable, and never really worked on.
Has anyone asked about those bugs?

Really?! I thought SH3 featured those well (at least with GWX). A better question would've been "do depth charges create noise that hinder the active/passive sonar?". Oh well, "All will be revealed in March".
The second answer was a bit more important, nobody would like a silent sub (unless you order silent running) :O:

KK, so how many of you have posted questions, and what have you posted.
I asked whether aircraft carriers would be able to launch their planes, and whether torpedo boats would be able to launch torpedoes. Neither question has been answered.
There are a lot of very good questions that have gone unanswered.

this is true but at this point it no longer matters because the game will be available for sale in 5 weeks so wait for accurate answers and avoid bad info or guestimates.
some things were told to us that they were in the game but are now known not to be in the game after all so even ubi has had things change since the first answers were given.

OH my God, Nothing satisfies you all does it.That pretty much sums it up, yes.
It's a pity... this used to be such a fantastic community. Hope it will rise to its former glory again when SH5 comes out, the u-boats go out on patrol, and the modders get to work on their various projects:up:.
These are the questions that they chose to answer, out of all the options they had available. Given that the full interior of the u-boat is one of their major selling points, I'd think that questions about the interior of the u-boat would have some kind of, you know, priority.
Honestly still don't see the problem. I mean, how many of you hate Falcon 4.0 Allied Force because you can only fly variations of the F-16, with the plus side being a nearly 100% complete cockpit with every switch, button, dial and computer feature implemented? Lemme see a show of hands.:crickets:

:crickets:
You do make sense. I love Falcon and I like the idea of a study sim that focuses on detail and accurate systems.
The big question and worry, however, for me is that we have really no idea if there is ANY increase in detail or accuracy with anything in SHV. We may end up with a study sim with nothing to study! I have compared this to Falcon not simulating fuel. It just wouldnt be right. I dont mind the fact that we only have one u-boat type but it should be very detailed systems wise.

Do you know the history of Falcon 4.0: Allied Force and the company that was formed to develop it? They were a group of modders who got a license to develop the orignal game and fix all the nasties. Is that what you think will happen with SH5?

its cheeky, not to let us know, what is exspecting us - questions where asked more than enough. the mainstream may not care (but even they might be more interested, as one might think) about details. but that does not legitimate ubi, to make such a bad information policy.

Absolutely no disagreement with this statement...assuming that SH5 turns out to be every bit as comprehensive as Falcon 4.0: AF. I have stated elsewhere that if SH5 turns out to be a proper study sim along the lines of Falcon 4.0 or similar games, then I think the majority of player concerns surrounding the one U-boat type will quickly disappear. Because for SH5 to achieve the same status as Falcon 4: AF, then all the major issues that have been raised over the last few years regarding the gameplay elements will have been addressed. I mean, one can't just limit the playable models to one to claim study sim status. ;)
If, however, SH5 turns out not to be a true study sim, then your comparison is apples and oranges: you may as well ask Lada drivers to stop complaining about having no air conditioning because their cars still have the same number of wheels as Rolls Royces. ;)
Now remind me, how many pages is the Falcon 4.0: AF manual?
760 :shifty:
I think the ongoing comparisons to Falcon 4.0: AF need to stop until we can assess how detailed and comprehensive SH5 is with just the one U-boat type...and this means beyond the pretty 3D interior...only then can we be sure that we are comparing apples and apples.
so if ubi isnt telling you anything where else can you get the answers to your questions but from someone who has the game on their computer
