Give me the sun drenched Caribbean and the exotic port of Freetown in my spiffy Type IX.

Not moot, on the contrary, several members are criticizing Ubi/the devs for their choice and implying that this would turn down a great number of customers. Maybe they're right, maybe not, as the Type VII is often perceived as the most popular, I'd think most people won't actually care about the other boats. So here's a poll to get a slightly better idea :)

My favorite sub is obviously a Gato or Balao, always has been, always will be. However, given their absence, well... S'cuse me while i dig up a fossil........

Type 7. Which, I am pressed to add, does not mean I have no interest in playing other types.

IX
Always started my war in Dec 39 when could get a IXB - as no IX ingame - type 2 for those small coastal patrols
Prolly the last boat I would ever pick is the type 7

Love the type II boats. "Little engine that could" mentality.
IXB, Type VII, electro-boat.

I voted IX, but really I like it this way, roughly speaking:
1939: IIa + IId
1940: VIIb + VIIc + VIIc41
1941: VIIc41 + IXb
1942: IXb + IXc
1943: IXc + IXc40
1944: IXc40 + IXd2
1945: IXd2 + XXI

Type IX-b and IX-C for long range, speed, and ammo reloads, also i love big fleet boats too since SH1.

All of them. I'm not partial.
Of course I voted Type II, but that's just because I'm perverse.
Love the VIIC and the IXD pretty much equally. Horses for courses though.
VIIC for the Med and shorter Western Approaches patrols, IXD for the long range US Coast/Carribean/South Atlantic/Indian Ocean runs.

I'm not sure...:wah:
I can't decide neither, I usually have 2 or 3 careers simultaniously..
Type 2, type 7 and a type 9...
currently I got a great type 9 career goin. (op monsoon)

Of corse Type IXC...It has more torpedoes and fuel isn't a big problem. It is better for submerged attacks.

AAtaman i agree with you
i like the ixd2 for the range and lots of fish
if a xxi type had a deck gun it would be my favorite

I'll hereby champion the 9 lurkers who also chose the XXI: I'm a big student of alternate history, and it is conceivable that Doenitz, if he had read the writing on the wall early enough, could have had something approximating the final design of the XXI by 1943 (i.e. a more or less true submarine and not a submersible). It gives you a reasonable shot at success at a time when other boats were obsolete deathtraps.

I voted Type VII, but I couldn't wait to get a Type IX so I could enjoy the balmy nights in the Carribean listening to Jimmy Buffett with some boat drinks.:DL
Now I just run multiple careers with a variety of boats, including a Type II in the Black Sea.

In SH3 the IX always felt like a lumbering giant to me after spending time in the VII... I did prefer the torpedo load and range of the IX of course, I just wish it would drop under the waves as fast as the VII.
As for the XXI, I missed having a deck gun though using it was suicide except for mopping up a damaged straggler but otherwise a superlative performer.
In the end, the fond memories of happy times with the VII puts it ahead of the others for me :)

Got to be a VII

First option, TYPE XXI.
Second option, a late-war type IX or VII, with good batteries, sonar, radar and snorkel.
With these subs we are talking about submarine warfare.
Bit depending on time, and mission ... but consistently IXC and XXI at the end of the war...

Hi everybody!
It's like jimbuna, the type XXIII at the end of the war in SHIII.
This submarine was a very powerful model.
So I hope it will be created one day for SHV :sunny:...

If I was a billionaire I would put together a team and create the perfect subsim, then a destroyer sim, then expand my subsim to include American and British and Dutch boats, then...
...then I'd throw you a few thousand for a cruise in your Type VIIC, of course.
