I'm very interested in getting Nokia's E52 however after a wekk or so researching on the net I've found a disturbing number of user complaints on the phone.

The problems include even the basic function
1. Freezes, Restart
2. Poor loudspeaker quality
3. Poor signal reception. A person mentioned design flaw that put the antenna on the lower side of the back of the phone where most people hold the phone with their hand and suggest to hold the phone on its upper side. And [if true] I would not buy a phone which tells me where I should hold it while talking.
4. Noise cancellation making user voice to disappear while talking on the phone in a relatively noisy environment hence degradation to call quality even a person or two complained that the only environment where this phone couyld be used is in a completely silent one.
5. Phone becoming dead within hours up to 2 months
6. Slow response
Thus I've looked for alternatives and one is the Nokia E72
However I'm not too fond of QWERTY keypad and I just think that if a cellphone is too big to be put in your pants then it's just simply a hassle.

However the number and severity of complaints coming from users of this phone is less than that of E52:

Nokia E72 problems include
1. Space keypad stopped working after prolong hour of standby without switching off. I know it's stupid
2. Freezes have been reported from a few users
3. Restart have also been reported from a few users.
4. Slow response

The thing is E52 has been out since Late July 2009 and perhaps I could expect improvement to their hardware to fix those annoying bugs and defect but I can never be sure.....the phone store did say that he just got a new shipment couple days ago.

So what do you think should I risk buying E52 which I like more than E72 mainly due to its form factor and its great value considering the price tag and its long battery life? Or should I choose a safer option and get E72 but at the cost of getting a QWERTY phone? I can live with that but I still prefer a classic candybar phone....
However I do like the fact that E72 comes with a great camera(5 Megapixels with auto focus and flash) and it has the same fast 600MHz processor
like the one they put in the E52, it has got an optical trackpad and noise cancellation that so far has not been complained by its users(so I assume the noise cancellation works alright).

Help me with your advise and suggestion!
Would be even better if you share your thoughts on either E52 or E72 if you happen to own one or even both :DL

The more I look into the internet the more I get confused.
Btw None of the [non user] reviews on the internet ever mentioned about these problems :nope:
A visit to the Nokia forum reveals so many user complaints on the E52 . . .that I find them disturbing.

I don't know anything about cell phones, but I know your frustration.

I get confused in the store lol

Who is your provider? Verizon now charges $350 early termination fee.

I wouldn't pick one of those phones with so many problems thinking the latest shipment might be problem free.

My two cents :|\\

If you find so easily so many user complaints and problems being mentioned- why do you even continue to consider getting one of the two? ;)

I'm getting and has always been getting an unlocked phone. Don't believe in contract though I subscribe instead of prepaid. Perhaps because the contract benefits are not that much here they don't even offer you discount on the phone.

There's no Verizon here. There's three and I think it may not be a very good carrier since it's a newcomer to the market.

My provider is Telkomsel it's the biggest provider here but I just may change provider to get better deal on the data packet service(internet)

Thanks for the input, much appreciated :)

It's the form factor Skybird I can't imagine how Nokia could mess up with this beautiful phone and the hope that later production batch is better which a person mentioned but yeah the severity of the complaints really disturb me. It can't even perform the most basic function such as calling properly. I'm hoping a fix to the hardware on later batches and firmware updates will make all these go away . . .O dear Nokia . . .

Well at least with E72 I could pretend to be a businessman :D

Of what use is the outer shine if the inner qualities fail you?

A cellphone is like an empty bottle. You buy the beer which has the taste you want. when you drank it, you throw the bottle away, no matter whether the glass is green, brown or white.

Conflicting comments such as these drive me nuts lol

But the most disturbing one when a person wrote that his company bought more than 150 E52 phones and half of those went dead within 2 months while the users who had their phone working right complained about the software . . .:nope: perhaps it was an effort to get the company to buy them E72 instead...lol

and the fact that I had been staunchly defending my stance that Blackberry devices look stupid. Something like QWERTY phones being bulky and looked more like a calculator when you use it to call someone. If I bought E72 I would have to more or less swallow my previous stand...

Edit:
In thread like this I see some light at the end of the tunnel for E52 that the newer E52 and with new firmware is working as they should. Still curious about call quality(the noise cancellation that cancels your voice)

I would get neither since I got laptop, but this is very sexy IMO:

Emporia Talk Premium (http://www.shop.co.uk/73962/emporia-talk-premium-sim-free)

But why? The more they add smarts to smartphones, the more problems they got.

Ooow coming from a Finnish themselves :D.

I thought it was time for me to try one of those smart phone after being ignorant and resistant all these years. Noise cancellation got to me :D I did a Low Noise Amplifier for my final project then (though what really interesting to me was the parallel analog to digital converter then) and finally somebody tried to do something to improve sound quality. I wonder what took them so long to come out with a filter . . .Besides I want to see how far chip miniaturization tech has helped to improve life usage. I used to design with smallest a 0.13um fab process while in college and during my intern and that was 8 years ago. I wonder what Nokia uses as their transistor size these days.

Okay I just don't want to be called out of trend :rotfl2:
Seriously I'm curious about this noise cancellation feature. I think it's cool if it works and E52 just looks bloody awesome. I'm weak want to try a good camera a fast mobile connection to the internet, FREE wifi, video call, and a chance to actually record things during my travel to the countryside(quite a few scenery worth recording and showing like NUDE deers at the Bogor presidential palace or some cool outing places such as a cliff side dining place or a middle of the rice field cafe or the scenery around tea plantation field) and having them uploaded....lol

I'm a 1600 kind of guy myself. My phone makes phone calls, nothing more. :sunny:

Yea there was a time I wasn't much of a gadget freak myself. Curiosity got into me I guess. I still think E52 is prettier and smarter looking than E72 though I'm now using E72.

Bricked the phone while updating once. Needed a whole engine replacement so I got a new IMEI(serial) now. That was kind of an eye opener. My PC never died for failing an update :shifty:.

I got a Nokia E71. No idea how much different the E72 is compared to 71 but it's a good phone, allows me to write stories on the go. Though I can't take voice calls because of the antenna placement next to my hearing aid... RF interferance.
Nokias aren't too bad, always been a Nokia user (except for the phone before my E71, I upgrade every 2nd year or so).

Nokia build quality seems to have some issues lately not a very encouraging trend.

And their service quality has suffered some bad publicity too here. Long repair time that repaired nothing.

Blackberry....plain and simple.
