I think you all shall not wait for mods being done... that is rude :nope:
Modders spend their time, hard work and all that for nothing.
Instead of waiting.. get yourself moving!
btw: before someone will release a mod like Gwx or other supermods it needs time to get tools for SH5 and... good men! For sure a year.. think about it ;)

Of course you could say that people should not be too demanding with mods. But on the other hands modding itself should not be seen as a _service_ to the community, but more like a hobby for the modder himself.
(Who in turn is then nice enough to share his hobby results with others ;)).

It will be interesting to find out just how moddable the game will be and who (if it is user friendly to modders) will release the first supermod http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

...and patches. I can't imagine any experienced modder going too far until the final patch has been released.
I think modding for SH5 will be no different than modding for the titles before it:
1. Within the first month a swag of small mods will be released by different (and largely unknown) individuals. Setting tweaks, new screens, that kinda stuff
2. After the second month "someone" will come along and cherry pick from the existing mods, combine them into one package, and include their own workings. Thus the first "supermod", like RUB, TMO, RFB etc will be born. An iterative process that will keep the modder busy while they update their mod to remain compatible with subsequent patches. Note that "someone" could be any number of people creating supermods concurrently.
3. While this is occuring, game tools will be developed and released, opening up the file structure to more advanced modding, such as object manipulation (new units etc)
4. After about six months, alliances of like minded modders will form and start working on larger supermods like WAC, GWX, LSH etc. Larger mods take longer time, so frustration ensues as players get impatient waiting the requisite 12 months for the first of these mods to be built, tested and released. Fortunately, many other talented modders will continue to feed the masses with new creations, now increasingly units, in the meantime.
5. By about July 2011, all things going well (ie SH5 still sustaining replayability and interest), we'll start seeing the first of the larger supermods. It will still take another year before we get larger supermods at the level that they are now with SH3 (evolutionary process - modders are still learning new things with SH3).
Thus anyone expecting a GWX3 or a WAC4 anytime soon will be sorely disappointed. That's my take, anyway...
EDIT: Unless, of course, we find out in a few weeks that SH5 will now be exclusive to Xbox. :D

Xbox. :D
Tell your mother to wash your mouth out with soap! That kind of language is not appropriate in a public forum. Children might be reading this, you know! :nope:
The Devs are familiar with GWX. I'm sure that they will produce a game as good as GWX. Anything less than SH3 + GWX would be a step backward.
Therefore supermods will not be needed and modders will sit on their hands.
(Ducking quickly)
Brag :D
As per 'Scones' post, I wouldnt expect any a really solid SHV supermods until late 2011 or so.
These things take alot time.
I hope to be able to enjoy the stock game for a year minimum.
That said; Community built new units are never bad thing, I can never have to many of those :)

We are collectively spoiled! Kudos to all mod makers and their hard works of love for the genre.

The voice of experience. :salute:
I'm going to try and not fall into the MOD trap this time. With SH4 I could never finish a career because of updating the MODS I used. I think I'll mod my own this time, looking forward to learning the new script they have replacing the ini files.

Guess not.
Maybe the Devs would want an entirely new game-engine and file-structure, but they probably can't afford that.
So they have to use what they have, as a starting point (existing game-engine, and their and our experiences from the past).
So I do expect the modding-process will be likewise for SH5 too....most of the data will be at familiar locations, which will speedup modding a little.
As for patches: those will probably focus on performance and bugs, and won't change the general out-of-the-box gameplay very much.

..allthough I wouldn't mind the 1st patch being a large update, to add functional wolfpacks and another full-3Dinterior Uboat-type.
Which ofcourse, changes gameplay allot .:D

I'm pretty sure game engine wont be so much diffrent. It will be the same but with improved graphic and new gameplay things.
I look forward for new cool mods for SHV. It'd be great to see TMO+RFB+GWX mega mod for next SH :).

:rotfl2::yep:
After five years I've still never finished a career in SH3, and for that very reason.

...but if i get a proper SIMulation now, with the right boats, i would not mind to pay for an expansion pack.

The other half of the mods equation will be how good is it out of the box? If the AI works exactly as it should, then there will be no need to mod it. Are the harbors full of life and accurately rendered? No harbor mods needed.
Even the sound may be perfect. I doubt it, but you never know.
