To be fair, I think the subject deserves at least two threads' worth of ridicule and righteous indignation.

Robertson's the kind of quasi-"Christian" who likes to gloat over any tragedy that happens to someone else and proclaim it a measure of how unworthy they are in his God's eyes, which really means in Robertson's eyes but to him it's pretty much all the same thing.

As usual in cases of such dire and immediate need, blaming the victim(s) for whatever reason = NOT HELPING but it sure is easier to do AND it gets your name in the news!

BTW you can now donate $10 to the Red Cross for relief efforts in Haiti by texting the word HAITI to 90999 (http://www.redcross.org/portal/site/en/menuitem.94aae335470e233f6cf911df43181aa0/?vgnextoid=15c0c5a210826210VgnVCM10000089f0870aRCR D) if you are so inclined.

That, Mr. Robertson, is what we would call HELPING.

Robertson is irrelevant becoming more so every day hence the desperate plea for attention.

Not supprising really.

I would as the Frau pointed out ignore his negativity and do something constructive ;)

Hi,
as long as there are people believing in creationism everything is possible. Didn't those pilgrims back then leave Europe because of crude religious perceptions ?
Well at least they turned back once because there was not enough beer abord their Mayflower, so at least they were not THAT crazy some centuries ago.

Greetings,

There's many reasons why i have a very large dislike of organized religion, and why i have sworn to myself that I'm never going to church again with two future execptions - my marriage and my funeral. Pat Robinson is an example of one of those many reasons.

I know plenty of people who are religious, and involved with organized religion that find Robertson dispicable.

All walks of life have hate-filled dolts.

As you so obviously rejected geology and seismology when you had problems with science over literal interpretation of scripture then surely you have no problem with people saying god makes earthquakes for naughty people.

Hi,
as long as there are people believing in creationism everything is possible.

Its amazing how people want to take every opportunity to paint anyone who disagrees with their view on religion and generalize it because of one person. Yet I could point out cases like anarchist John Most, famous criminal and athiest - and thus say "well as long as people want to deny a Supreme Being - anything is possible".

I would have hoped that people would have grown up beyond such childish and obviously incorrect generalizations - but then again, I guess I shouldn't be suprised....

For every Robertson I can point to groups that offer comfort without judgement, and shake their heads at idiocy like that. But then, that doesn't matter to those who seek to tear down out of their own hatred.

Hate is hate - regardless of where its targetted, and comments like the above are just as hate filled as the ones from the idiot Robertson. The pot calling the kettle "black" - the irony is probably lost on some though. Its probably time for haters of religion to grow up. Religion is a personal choice- and for folks like Ducimus, I respect his decision. Its a personal one. But there is no reason for others to just slam every person who chooses to believe out of a sense of their own hatred for religion.

I 100% agree with you! Actually about 98%, because I didn't get married in the church and I don't want to have funeral there either.

This guy is a major MORON and hippocrite.

But...!

What beats me, is how crap like this even makes it to be aired, most of the TV networks are bunch of a$$holes, too. They will air any controversial piece which might raise their ratings.
The reason why I don't watch news or read newspapers.

Its amazing that you can insist that scripture is 100% correct if taken literally, then complain that someone like Robertson is being an idiot by taking scripture literally.

I said he was ONE reason. I have several more that ive experienced in my life. But since this thread is about Pat, i only pointed him out, and what the effects of things like Pat have been to my person. What's funny, is the evangelical devout have no clue that their efforts are having the exact opposite effect of what they want. And then they wonder why - thats the real funny part.

On the June 8, 1998 edition of his show, Robertson denounced Orlando, Florida (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orlando,_Florida) and Disney World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_World) for allowing a privately sponsored "Gay Days" weekend. Robertson stated that the acceptance of homosexuality (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality) could result in hurricanes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane), earthquakes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthquake), tornadoes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tornado), terrorist bombings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_terrorism_in_the_United_States) and "possibly a meteor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meteor)."[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Robertson_controversies#cite_note-8) The resulting outcry prompted Robertson to return to the topic on June 24, where he quoted the Book of Revelation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_Revelation) to support his claims. The first hurricane of the 1998 Atlantic hurricane season (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_Atlantic_hurricane_season)[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Robertson_controversies#cite_note-nhc.noaa.gov-9), Hurricane Bonnie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Bonnie_(1998)), actually turned away from Florida and instead damaged the rest of the east coast. The area hardest hit by the hurricane was the Hampton Roads region,[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Robertson_controversies#cite_note-10), which includes Virginia Beach[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Robertson_controversies#cite_note-11), where the Robertson's 700 Club (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_700_Club) is broadcast from

Exactly, I dont know why this gets so much coverage and discussion.

That's why I don't involve myself with organized religions.

I have my beliefs and try to help my fellow man whether friend or stranger.

That's what my God asks of me.

I don't need some stranger telling me he's got a better connection and then asks for money and says he'll do my thinking for me.

Because he is broadcast worldwide, including the crazy "religious right" version of news reports it does for current events coverage.
ABC can fire other nuts who broadcast crap, but the deal Disney bought off Fox states that they must broadcast Robertsons rubbish no matter how crazy what he says is.

The 'Devil' Writes Pat Robertson A Letter

6:03 pm
January 15, 2010
By Frank James
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune published a letter from Satan to evangelist Pat Robertson, responding to his comment that Haiti's persistent troubles, including the earthquake, are due to a pact the nation made with Mephistopheles.

Dear Pat Robertson,
I know that you know that all press is good press, so I appreciate the shout-out. And you make God look like a big mean bully who kicks people when they are down, so I'm all over that action.

But when you say that Haiti has made a pact with me, it is totally humiliating. I may be evil incarnate, but I'm no welcher. The way you put it, making a deal with me leaves folks desperate and impoverished.

Sure, in the afterlife, but when I strike bargains with people, they first get something here on earth -- glamour, beauty, talent, wealth, fame, glory, a golden fiddle. Those Haitians have nothing, and I mean nothing. And that was before the earthquake. Haven't you seen "Crossroads"? Or "Damn Yankees"?

If I had a thing going with Haiti, there'd be lots of banks, skyscrapers, SUVs, exclusive night clubs, Botox -- that kind of thing. An 80 percent poverty rate is so not my style. Nothing against it -- I'm just saying: Not how I roll.

You're doing great work, Pat, and I don't want to clip your wings -- just, come on, you're making me look bad. And not the good kind of bad. Keep blaming God. That's working. But leave me out of it, please. Or we may need to renegotiate your own contract.

Best, Satan
