Something very weird happened to me in SH3 today.
I sunk two merchants in grid BF17 in a light storm.

After that i dived to periscope depth, and my sub had no damage whatsoever.

Then all of a sudden it starts taking damage very fast and around a minute later my uboat is destroyed.
The cause is: Pressure

So, no enemy ships in sight (visual and sonic) and no bombs, and my uboat goes kaputt in a depth of 14 meters.

What the hell just happened?

Have you SH3 Commander? If so there are option to increased damage effect, so this could "maybe" be a answer to the damage you suffer,or have you hit a mine!? to sink slowly....

Don't think so, if i have i haven't used it yet. A mine could be possible, never hit one before and didn't have much time to look around the sub in Godeye-mode.

There was a bang though, but i was watching the merchant ship sink when the sub was beginning to take damage, and the bang noise could be from one of the sinking ships, can't really differentiate where the explosion sound came from.
Are there any mines in the midnorthern part of grid BF17 year 1939?

Have had that happen in the North Sea, but I wandered into a minefield.
Never have I run into mines in BF 17 or anywhere on the West side of England before in 1939-41.
Always a good place to hunt.
Did you get too close to the merchants when they exploded. I lost part of my gun crew once due to this.

under water level the sound go fast,so the first bang or noise your ears found, could be so, a mine...so I hope this was early in your mission so you can start again,or go back to last saved game post..

my guess... depending on year would be an aircraft sighted your submerged submarine and bombed it.

especially if you had your periscope up and were only at periscope depth.

I've had boats crush on me realy shalow, 37 m is the shalowest I recall, and that was only the one time. I only had one depth charg hit and was kind of confused. At 17 m, and given your posisition and date, chances are good that you were bombed.

I'll take a guess here that you hit the "D" key, instead of the "P" key and your boat just kept on diving. Can happen real quick at accelerated time speed.

Boy do I know!:wah:

How close were you to the exploding ship? It could possible have flung a funnel or cranemast or whatever in the air and dumped it on your head. Though luck there . :(

The mission/campaign editor doesn't show any mines in BF17 during the whole war. So that can't be it. It doesn't seem to be aircover either. The airbases don't reach that far in 1939. (but almost) Plenty of convoys and merchants run there though. So it could also have been that you were too busy looking at your prey going down and some escort of an approaching convoy which came to help got in reach to put some shells on your head. But your hydrophone operator should have picked it up as it approached.

Not if it came up thru the blind spot. Then it would be on top of you and your first clue would be when you start taking damage.

Like Pisces said, you could have been too close or something. It happened to me once. I was finishing a ship off from ~150m with the flak gun, (out of torpedos in a IIA). It looked like it where about to go down, but I had nothing else to do so...
Suddenly it blew up in my face and I heard my hull crack right open. It took about one or two seconds, (maybe three, with the reaction time in mind) until it was all over.

I was stunned and regretful. :nope:

Either too close to a sinking merchant when she explodes on her way down or (most likely) attack from the air.
