View Full Version : Subsim enthusiasts by age?

I have never seen this posted. I believe I have a worthy question. I found this game a few months ago and really got into it.
I am age 61.
Curious to know the mean age of members here.
Where are the most players?, under 30 yrs?, 30-50 yrs?, or over 50yrs?
If my valid question falls into the realm of a meaningless thread, I won't be alone..........Shipsrus.

I turned 22 yesterday.
It has always appeared to me that the subsim genre attracts an older demographic. And rightfully so; Young people these days seem to be lacking in the patience and logic that sims require. Instead they opt for the fast-paced shooter type games.
Nevertheless, although they are the minority of the gaming world, there are many young people on these forums.

The start date of ww2 depends largely upon who you ask. I assume you're referring to 1 Sept. 1939 or 3 Sept 1939, but at that point it wasn't really a "World War" yet. For the Americans Americans it began in December 41'. The Russians put the start of the "Great Patriotic War" as June of 41'. The Japanese and Chinese would probably date the conflict back to July of 37', or even as early as 1931, when the Sino-Japanese war began the first time. Many other countries didn't join the war until 44' or 45', though I'm sure everyone would agree it was certainly a world war before that time period.
In any case, congrats on your between 78th and 68th years. May you live to see a hundred or more:salute:
I'm not trying to be a smartass, I 'm just wondering which date you're using.
Oh yeah, I'm 27.......going on 21. You're only as old as you feel:DL

Interesting question that you dig out from under that sunken wreck.:DL
I'm in my late forties. Still love playing the game at my age and hopefully many more years will pass and I'll stay be playing this kind of game.
Thanks for the great question. It got me reflecting on the things I like to do besides going back to college and play sub simulation games in my spare time.

Born11 days before WW II started in the Netherlands 10 May 1940.
That day, 29 of april, my granddad, after visiting me and my mother, was leaving for sea and came back five yars later a few days after the war ended.
I share the same birthday date as Einstein, Michael Caine, Wolfgang Peterson and Quincy Jones.
In the year I was born:
Ronald Reagan announced that he had outlawed Russia forever and was commencing the bombing in five minutes, later on in the year he went on to win his second term in office after thrashing Walter Mondale rather epically.
'Do they know it's Christmas?' was released during Band Aid in an attempt to raise money for the Ethiopian famine.
Transformers made their debute.
Maggie Thatcher and her government ministers escaped death in the Brighton Hotel bombing.

Old enough to know better, still too young to resist.
Actually I'll be 46 in September if you count it up in mundane human years, however at 39 I began aging backwards like Merlin so with that in mind I'm now 32 going on 31.
Granted I may have to rethink this scheme when I'm 18 going on 17 and face the prospect of going back to high school. *shivers*

If you're anything like me you've probably reached the point where you have to remember what year it is now, remember what year you were born, and then do the math. Or else try to remember how old you were when you did the math on your last birthday, then add one year and hope you're not actually remembering how old you were two or three birthdays ago instead.
I have to say, seeing someone reply that they were born at the same time "Do They Know It's Christmas" was recorded is the most depressing thing I've read all week. And that includes my 2009 W-2.
It's almost like when they debuted "Closet Classics" or whatever it was on MTV and were playing - as CLASSICS, mind you - stuff I bought when I was already out of high school.
And yes, I am actually so old that I remember when MTV still played music videos, and also so old that I remember when that joke was still funny. :O:

Youngest is a tie between Morts and Task Force at 16. Wow 16 sure is young for an Admiral and a Navy SEAL. Oh well, *salutes*

Actually, I'm kinda surprised with the diversity here. I figured it would trend older than your typical "video game" forum, but 16 to 69 is a truly impressive spread.
