I've been trying to get this to work correctly for Two weeks.
Mod List
TriggerMaru_Overhaul_19
TMO19_Patch_081209
RSRDC_TMO_V502
RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1
I've done Three complete reinstalls clearing the leftover folders as well. Updated to 1.5, all settings on max.(Also tried lowest)
System Specs
Windows 7 x64 - Professional
Nvidia 9600 GT x2 in SLI
Quad Core 2.4 Ghz (Not Over-clocked)
4GB Dual Channel 800 Mhz (Ran 2 memory testers - no damage)
750I Deluxe XFX Mobo
SoundBlaster X-FI ExtremeGamer
Admin Actions
Ran as Admin
Defragged
Drivers up-to-date (re-verified) [Video,Sound,Windows,Mobo]
Re-installed (Twice completely fresh)
The Error
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: sh4.exe
Application Version: 1.5.0.0
Fault Module Name: Sound.act or ntdll.dll or SHCollision.act
This happens every time I load a game, the load bar gets to 90% and BSOD with the error report window. I can start a new game at pearl and go anywhere without a crash in-game. 9 careers ended within 8 hours of play due to this.
Any help greatly appreciated!
~Can provide DxDiag or any other info if needed :salute:
You are going to need someone with Win 7 experience your install in my WinXP SP3 works flawlessly.
Good luck!

:shifty: I put off vista long enough to never install it, but it seems I find nothing but woe for anything that worked perfectly on xp.

Somewhere I saw a thread on Win7 and Vista install issues. I'll see if I can find it.
Also, make sure you load DX from the disc, newer versions cause problems. You can run multiple versions, so OK to do so.

Will give it a shot.
Spoke too soon... I added some of the DX files that were missing and it loaded up one of my old careers, however when I exited to come report the good news it seems to have re-ended my careers. I noticed every time I select exit game it CTD's as well.

Still need help here, I moved the SH IV folder to the "Games" folder on Partition C instead of the program files. This made a slight improvement, but it's still a 50|50 shot of whether or not it loads. :damn:
Sound.Act is the cause of crashes during loads. I think I'm gonna pick up a new sound card tomorrow, so a nice one for not too much. Whether or not it fixes the problem it will still be a nice addition over the built in sound. :yep:
~ Side note, game works 100% fine before TMO goes in.
~Update SHCollisions.act causes crash during fleet battles, I think it's whenever I get hit

at this point i think its fubar and uninstall the game, delete any leftover files then do a fresh new install into the "games" folder in the main ""c" drive/ games" directory and not in the ""c" drive/ programs files" directory
then run the game

I'll try to save that for a last resort, I've had a lot more success doing two things; Deleting the Gramophone folder completely (Not sure if this fixed anything, but more success loading games), increased the 3d audio channels( reduced my crashes). I got a sound card today, I've been using on-board hd audio for the 750i nforce board series. If I still have crashes I'll go ahead and pull the plug and try again.

check the sound files and any that are large delete them or move them to a folder for safe keeping. Load up SH4 and see what happens.
Might be completely different problem but i saw 'sound.act' in your error, got a similar type of crash so checked the sound files and found two files sized 11mb and 6mb. I edited them with a sound editor cut the size down to 3mb and 1mb. Crashing stopped.

Sorry if this turns into a double post, the sites been slow for me today. I'm gonna go with fresh everything, even though I did before all of this started. Then I'll tackle the sound files if it keeps up. Thanks for the tip.

Im getting the same problem but i put it down to my crapping ISP. I couldn't edit my previous post as it took ages to reload :haha:

O.K. , Everything is fresh and ready to go. Re-downloaded every mod to be safe. And the few changes I made manually, I made it a separate mod folder (Got tired of altering the files each time I reloaded JGSME). I'm gonna defrag while I hit the gym and hope for the best when I get back.
~Wish me luck~ :salute:
*Well seems my old saves are out... as usual. Sound.ACT crash first attempt to load, Collision.ACT the 2nd try :nope:. At least I know the spawn location of the two TF's I found, 4 Heavy Cruisers + 3 DD's near Guam, 2 Kongo's 2 Unique Heavy Cruisers + 6 DD's heading towards Brunie Bay. Sucks I'll have to spend hours getting the tonnage back. Hopefully the new career ends this crashing business once and for all. :-?

*Sigh* I tried giving up but it didn't work :-?. I've found a pattern though!
1)First I found quite the anomaly, when I got a save game loaded that had failed to load I think somewhere around 25 times (Tried different compatabilities ect..)
It mysteriously worked :hmmm:, although I didn't get to enjoy it long, My ship was shaking violently, my view was stuck at an angle(Although I could look around) My speed went from 0 kts - 60 kts back to 0, my depth went from Surfaced - 200 m - Surfaced - 1600 m :timeout:. This all happened in a matter of seconds and before I could push S, everything was destroyed and when I hit the bottom it crashed. I might attribute this to my collison.act crash as well, just I don't get to see it happen.
2) I was wondering if it was just my class of sub that was causing the crash, so I checked the museum and found something else strange. Subs such as; The Porpoise, Narwhal, Trench, Sargo, and Salmon all caused ntdll.dll crashes instantly. However, viewing the Gar and Gato subs nothing happened at all. Even though some of these subs share the same model and interior :06:.
3)Sound.act I have no idea, I've tried taking all sound files out, turning them all off, but honestly I think I can throw this into the same category as the first, many sounds played at once; all my torpedoes launched at once random alarms and sounds( Maybe every noise I had heard up to that point playing at once?)
~side note This is in my main cfg in the documents folder, shouldn't that say 1.5?
[Ubi.Com]
GameName=SILENTHUNTER4
Version=SH4PC1.0
I'm at a loss here, I'm wondering if I can call the D2D version fubar? I've heard in other games such as the elder scrolls oblivion that it caused havoc when mods were enabled.
Sorry for the lengthy post, really putting a lot into this.
My advice for you is to install WINXP and WIN7. Use XP for games that don't work on WIN7. I had a similar issue. My HDD was going nuts and I got tired of trying all sorts of fixes. Long story short, I got angry then calmed down an with calm I made back up for my important data and then I formatted my HDD. I started with WINXP, made a partition for XP and one for WIN7, installed XP into a partition and then WIN7 into another. My games are running smoothly on XP.

Do you think Windows Xp Mode (Virtual PC that came with Win7) would do the trick?

That I do not know I am afraid. You coul try it if you don't feel like formatting your HDD.

I'll try it and hope for the best, I installed Windows 7 Early this month, seems a little much to reformat already.
Does Win 7, have the same directory issues that Vista had so that you should not let the program be installed to the Programs...blah blah blah directory?
Could that be it? Just a thought! I am still on XP Pro for gaming, I only use Vista Ultimate for my HTPC. Win 7 is just outrageously since I build my own PC's.

I didn't use Vista, so I'm not sure what problem there was. The first install was in program files, I was told there are permission problems with that. So I reinstalled under C:\Games which I created. It made no difference. I downloaded the virtual windows xp mode and am updating it atm.

I don't get it.:shifty: I ran the virtual XP mode that Microsoft says fixes all of the compatibility issues, but when I try to run the game it just says cannot run 3d engine. So I thought ok, it needs it's own display driver, couldn't find any compatible hardware to install the drivers. Completely lost any advice?

I'm curious, is there a dev console? When I played Sins of a Solar Empire I could use the dev console to show exactly which file was causing a crash. It would freeze the game to show what the error was, and if possible gave an option to ignore it. If it couldn't be ignored it would mini dump and kept a log so you could find the problem anyway.

I would do a formatting in an instant. Piece of cake. How many days are since you are tormenting yourself trying to make the game work in WIN7?. It would take you only half a day. Make back-up of your important data on dvd's or an external HDD and then "Ahead Flank"

ETA? ETA? ETA? I cannot afford one for a few months. So I am reading up on sonar, radar, how to attack with map contacts off, celestial navigation, perfect MoBo, and how to intercept targets over the horizon. What I would really like to do in the interim is figure out how to mod. But I don't have a clue and do not know where to begin. If I could mod, I would find plenty to do, including modding GUMS (the x-rated version of Jaws), undersea volcanoes, giant squid a la Captain Nemo, and change a few BBs into rubber ducks that spit fish instead of artillery shells, talk like Daffy Duck and quack instead of sound a siren.
(I think its time for another appointment with the base psychiatrist.)

The thing is it's only SH IV that has any problems. Sins of a Solar Empire, Demigod, Company of Heroes, Command and Conquer, UT, Wolfenstein all work, other than a few tweaks which I found easily online worked fine. I might have to wait for SH V.
Btw @ IGD + Magic, I'm sure you're friends and having fun but I'm looking for help, thanks.
Here's a thing. How big is you HDD?
Take Partition Magic and make a partition on you HDD and install WINXP:yeah:. Then install drivers, codes, apps and you set to go

I feel for ya IGD...just got mine fixed, a week with no play...and I chased the JP philippine TF all night..got one Yamato and mad as fire, left the other one dead in the water with many hits, around 10, but couldn't sink it. Even pulled back and put all my DG shells in it.
I hoped some US air would show up, but only JP, so I got right beside it. The JP bombed the Yamato several times, got me a lil once, but still no go. Started smoking, but I knew if it blew with me beside it, I was a goner.
I hang around for 3 days and a large TF shows up...had to be JP. Seem they found me. I went to 600 ft and a dd made a good run and 53%damage. I'm hid out under the Yamato now why 5 carriers go by and dd's look for me...
Guess I''ll head for base when they leave...sure hate leaving it dead on the water.

How do I respond to a shot like that? It's not a shot across the bow, but it close. May I retort?
First, you do not own this thread.
Second, Magic and I are interested enough to follow the posts to see how things work out.
Third, we are not co-opting the thread.
Fourth, you are better off than me, because you, at least, have a chance to load the game at some point. I have none, because at the exact moment that a dd in TMO 1.9 sank my boat, my motherboard found Davey Jones locker. (I always knew Ducimus was out to get me.)
Fifth, I have been lurking because some really smart captain may post a solution and I want to see who and the diagnoisis/solution, as one day I will get a new computer.
Fifth...er, Sixth, :yawn:yawn, I am going back to bed. This is too much excitement for one day.:D
Magic, let's go somewhere else and raise hell (if that is what you would call it?), which is what a sailor does on shore leave (doesn't he?)

This is a technical support thread for my problem, so when I ask not to post off topic and you make a list to try and make me look like an ******* how am I supposed to respond?
If you call that raising hell maybe you should go somewhere else.
If he fires one, I'll fire one. "Fire one AYE"

Might have found a solution, of course saves are out. :x
I installed the game through xp mode, then replaced the folder in my win 7 directory. Have put each mod in one at a time then checked the museum. So far the result is no more blurred or missing textures(Some random BB's and DD's), no instant CTD when looking at a sub, no error when I click exit game. It's a start, I'm going to start career # 13 :shifty:; get into 2 different heavy combat zones that I've memorized in the first couple weeks of the game, save before and after each conflict, and finally exit game and try to reload each. If successful I think I may have won a record for most futile time spent fixing something that wasn't broken. If the crashes persist I'll start picking apart the mods going back to step 1 rinsing and repeating.;)
~Thanks for all suggestions and support to this point and salvation may be just around the corner.

Alright, calling it quits for real this time. I'm out of ideas, and my patience is at an end being week 3. I did a registry sweep and I could have sworn jesus had touched my SH IV the way it suddenly worked. It was short lived. I've tried at least 20 different configurations and set ups, including using a disc version of the game. Thanks for the support and I guess I'll come back on the release of SH V, if I don't get deployed to basic first.:salute:

I haven't read all the post, but will chip this in. I had a problem that popped up as a ntdll error. I found this and just replaced the win ntdll.
Lil work, but corrected it for me. I think you just have a registry error nothing to do with the game.
First go to http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?ntdll (http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?ntdll) Link may show an easier way or lead you though it.
Scroll down and download the file
Extract the file from the zipped folder
Copy the ntdll.dll file
go to start>run> type in: C:
go to program files then go to the "Internet Explorer" folder.
paste the file in the folder and also paste it in the plugins folder which is located inside of the Internet Explorer Folder.

This sounds so eerily JUST like the problem I am having. I am not sure if replacing the vista DLL with an xp dll is going to cause issues. can anyone confirm? 99% of the time I get Sound.ACT failures.
EDIT: IT IS A VERY BAD IDEA...BSOD on start up.
