Is there some way to get SH3 to pause or in some other way change TC when a grey contact box shows up in GWX 3.0? TC changes whenever I get a radio message, spot a ship, etc., but not when a contact shows on the map.

I'm familiar with using SH3 Commander to change TC for certain conditions, but not that one...

Can I change this somehow?

EDIT: on a related topic, is there some way to change TC when the engine compartment's crew drops below minimal?

Go into time compression settings in commander and select the 'When receive radio contact' option and lower to 1x TC.

I think there's also an option for 'Low crew efficiency' too.

Yeah, you know the funny thing is that it isn't either one of those.

The Radio Message one is only when you actually receive a radio message (where you press M and you see the list of incoming/outgoing communications). The contacts don't come in as a message (at least none that I've seen so far), just a contact box suddenly showing up on the map.

And the Low Crew Efficiency setting doesn't seem to have any effect when crew efficiency actually drops below minimal. It just keeps trucking along at whatever TC it was set to.

Any other ideas?

Go into time compression settings in commander and select the 'When receive radio contact' option and lower to 1x TC.
The option is actually "When receive radio report". Report <> contact.

Radio contacts are tied to the Real Time TC setting. Whatever your Real Time TC setting is (and it should be 1, obviously), your radio contact TC will be the same.

Just be aware, other events are tied to the Real Time TC setting as well. Further, if you set the Real time TC greater than the TC for certain other events, unexpected side effects may occur.

In other words, get used to it. ;)

I have Real Time set to 1, When Receive Radio Report set to 0, When Low Crew Efficiency set to 0.

So it sounds like with this setup and what you've pointed out, Jscones, I should expect that TC will drop to 1 if there is a new contact on the map and TC to 0 when my crew efficiency drops too low in the engine room such that my submarine comes to an uncommanded stop.

However, neither of these things happen. In both cases whatever TC I have set prior to these events continues.

Does this sound like something is wrong with my install perhaps? Or is this correct behavior?

I guess I'm not sure what you're asking. They're set to 0 so that the sim pauses under those two conditions. Sometimes I have them set to 1, sometimes to 0, sometimes to default.

I'm just trying to figure out why, regardless of the TC setting, neither new contacts nor insufficient crew in the engine room (from fatigue) has an effect on the TC.

If new contacts are tied to Real Time, then it should be reset to 1 when a new contact appears on the map, yet that's not the case. I guess my radio operator is asleep and only wakes up when he hears morse code. And maybe the engine crew are too tired to hit the TC set/reset button. :)

For what it's worth...

Now it seems that some contacts do affect TC while others do not. Possibly due to proximity? And what's more is that the contact (talking about the grey box popping up on the map, no message) in this case dropped TC to zero, which is what my setting is for When Receive Radio Report. As was pointed out earlier by JScones, the radio contacts are tied to the Real Time setting. My Real Time setting is '1' and my Radio Report setting is '0' - in this case it dropped to '0', not '1'.

Any explanation for this behavior? I don't think I've broken my install, but it's possible. I have always rolled back SH3 Commander before changing anything in JSGME and only done so while in port.


Also can confirm there is no doubt (at least on my install) that low crew efficiency doesn't affect TC when engine crew gets too tired to operate.
