At a non-english forum (paid access for source), I found this information:
Multiplayer co-operation - we have bad news: most likely not live to see it in this part of the SH.
Anybody know SOMETHING about the multiplayer mode in Silent Hunter 5?

there are some multiplayer subsimmers out there.
but i don't think the multiplayer crowd represents a very large portion of the overall submarine simulation community.
Since the date of release i have played SH3 multiplayer ONCE.
personally... i dont really care about SH5 being multiplayer or not.
there are far too many intricacies and issues with real time multi player naval warfare sims unless you stick to a VERY SMALL map segment.
i just never viewed it as being much fun myself.
there are those who disagree but i will make the bold statement that... i think most of the subsimmers out there will agree with the opinion that multiplay is not a core segment of the silent hunter franchise which drives many of us to buy the game.
if this is true about multiplayer not being included... big deal. ;)

I donm't disagree with your statement regarding the small numbers who play MP.....I do think it would be a shame for those who do play MP though if it is not included.

As harsh as it may sound to the MP fans out there, I can't disagree with you at all. I too have played multiplayer SH3 once since release. I can't really get all worked up about the presence or not of SH5 multiplayer.

oh of course it would be a shame, no doubt about it.:yep:
come to think of it... I dont think i have ever played much multiplayer on any simulation genre
Microsoft flight sim, combat flight sim, subsims none of it.:hmmm:

In the past i used to play MP with three friends (Age of Empires, Starcraft etc)
These 3 guys never played a sub sim or flight sim until....
I lured them with SH2/DC
the controls of destroyer command where easy to learn and they could have fun chasing me in my sub
One of them became a sub simmer...
Later i lured them to flight sims with IL-2 Sturmovik
I guess most of you know this title
for the ones that don't i just need to say that you could fly together with some friends with NO experience at flight sims
I did the piloting and they were the gunners in my bomber
They had so much fun doing this that they finally started to learn to fly the plane instead of just being gunners
And finally they became flight simmers
So think about
MP promotes the product and finally sells...
that is both good for the companies and for us

I have searched several of my game magazine sources and cannot confirm this statement. One of the magazines I browsed through stated SH5's "number of players" as "optional". Since otherwise they'd just say "single" or "solo" or something like that, I guess we can look forward to SH5 multiplayer.
Even if your source is not accessable Antar, I guess the person who made that statement posted a link as proof? Without any proof, I might just open a new thread right away telling Subsim users I've read somewhere that SH5 is not going to work on operating systems below Vista 64bit - without any proof. People just might believe me, and chaos is done. ;)

I wish Il2 Strumovik multiplayer could be compared to the mp-option of the SH-series!
I've played Il2 online in tournaments, with more than 2000 pilots (Virtual Eastern Front)...on the same simulation-level as offline-play offered!
But 1C kept an entirely different approach to game-versions: instead of opening the door to modders, they released a constant stream of patches and updates, which kept everyone on the same game-version.
So multiplayer was way easier to maintain, and improve on the way.
But in the SH series, every player has to have the same game-version, including any mods that they want to use.
So you end up disabling mods, for mp...or - in the absence of a proper mp-browser - have to use a forum to agree about any mods to be used.
...and then hope everyone makes it into the game!
I tried SH3 mp a couple of times.
Ended up playing with the stock patched game, with all the frustrating shortcomings.
Btw, it's possible to play with a modded game online, against players who have entirely different versions....ArmAII!

Even though the core of the gameplay is single player I don't see why it wouldn't have multiplayer since SH3 and 4 had it.

Golden Rivet I don't agree with you, there are a lot of players playing on multiplayer, there are many clans, trust me because I play on multiplayer.

Maybe, but I believe he's right on this:
there are far too many intricacies and issues with real time multi player naval warfare sims unless you stick to a VERY SMALL map segment.
So I would be surprised if MP in SH will someday be very attractive.
BTW, this is from the Community Q&A:
Any plans for a Co-op. multi player mode that puts several players in one single Submarine? (Co-Op campaign mode?)
This is an interesting feature and one that we have considered many times and would like to do – but it comes with some design and technical problems that need to be solved before committing to it. For release the answer is No. But there will be several enhancements to the multiplayer mode, derived directly from the enhanced submarine controls.
Edited, read the rules, (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/faq.php?faq=susbim_faq_item#faq_rules2_faq_item) simple as that.

Read carefully, in the Community Q&A it says:
But there will be several enhancements to the multiplayer modeUnless this is a ''politician lie'', there should be a MP aspect, isn't it? ;)

Everything I've read (inc Q&A, game specs on various third party websites) suggests that MP will be there in all its glory.
Can't imagine why they'd take it out now, but still possible I guess. :hmmm:
