Ehem... :stare: NFL...? What's that? OH, I remember, we made it giving up in Europe in 2007, after it lived for some miserable years without leaving an impression.
Now, do you know what the DFB is? It is the biggest organised sports association on the planet: the German Football Association. :salute: People may not know what the Superbowl is, what is absolutely understandable :O:, but all over the planet they know what FIFA's continental and World Championships are.
Last but not least, there are only 320 million US-Americans, but there are 485 million EU-people, 390 million Southamericans, 1 billion Africans, and 4 billion Asiens.
So when almost 6 billion people tell you 320 million Bowling-fans that FOOTBALL is the name of the game, cute tiny bowl-playing America better believes it...! :shucks:

Finaly, they have a fitting name for it.
The only other possible option would be HuddleBowl.
(They do more talking than playing).

Well than lets just put our American football players on the field against your football players and who ever lives through it can claim the name:yep:
All Joking aside why do they not call it Soccer? Isn't that the official name of the sport?
Soccer is a colloquialism. The official name is Association Football from the laws originally drawn up by the UK based Football Association in 1863 and now goverened by FIFA.

Indeed. FIFA's (questionable, though) list of national teams world rankings currently has them on 14th place.

The greatest title-collectors, are the Brazilians. The most constant top team, are the Germans.
Germans most feared opponent, are the Italians. Brazils most feared opponents they stumble most often over - they are themselves. :)

True (aka AMERICAN) football is a true sport - men battling each other all over the place, scrumming and pushing and gouging even when the ball is nowhere nearby. If memory serves me right, you can't even run over someone unless the ball is involved in "soccer". I mean - whats the point of a good scrum if you have to worry where some bloody ball went?
If you want to define a real sport - its where someone can get seriously injured in a legal collision that has nothing to do with where the "scoring" thing is...
Thus - only Hockey, real (aka AMERICAN) Football, and Auto Racing qualify as real sports.

That is more a definition of anarchy, circus or war, than sports. :hmmm:
Maybe egg-carrying would find greater acceptance outside the US if the players would not stand around so much of the time, and play would see more flow and action instead of brakes and interruptions, not to mention commercials. Concerning dynamics and match flow, egg-carrying is just this:
L-A-Z-Y - 'N - L-A-M-E !!!
:woot:
The best of it are the chearleaders, which proves that it is a true girls sports! :yeah:
Personally I hope American Football is never accepted outside the US (and maybe Canada). It is our sport and the last thing I want is a bunch of silly foreigners trying to take it over.

Rugby is ok but they'd be padding up too if they made NFL grade hits and tackles. We tried it without pads and helmets and the body count was just too great for society to accept.

Rugby anyday. Rugby World cup 2011.
Trouble with soccor is to many hollywood injuries where they scream murder after getting hit in the calf muscle where 99.9% of the time the injury that has cause them to roll over the false grass screaming for their mummy NEVER happened, faking injuries for their team is now what that game is all about! I can't stand the game. Only time i seem interested is when its NZ v Aus.

For once OTH - you and I agree - Cuba could beat the snot out of the US in baseball - oh wait - if all the cubans had to play for cuba - could the US even field a team?
"America's pastime" = watching a bunch of people with hard to pronounce names find ways to waste time on a baseball diamond.....
No wonder its audience - both live and on tv - has dropped steadily over the years.
Not to mention the whole steroid issue....

Seriously though, any injury in the NFL, fake or real, costs the "victims" team a valuable time out. Therefore most of the drama queen stuff is kept off the field, where it should be.

How many EXTRA time outs do they get in addition to all that time of rubbing each others butts in the circle?
Too much dead time in handegg. Dull. Boring. Dumb.

I tried to get into soccer but watching it just bores the life out of me.
American NFL-style football, I enjoy watching.
Rugby or any other sport that's more like NFL football, only without all the pads and so much downtime, I enjoy most of all. Sadly I can't seem to find any of it on the teevee channels I have here.
I remember back when ESPN first started up, and had zero affiliations/contracts with the big US sports leagues. So we got all kinds of stuff from all over the world. Rugby, Aussie rules, World Cup skiing...
Once I watched a rugby match - might've been the All Blacks playing somebody - and I swear I saw a guy with his ears duct-taped to his head. I can only assume it was to keep them from getting ripped off.
*sniffle*
Good times, good times.

Good times, good times.Correct on both counts. Rugby props often tape their ears to prevent them being ripped off:
