I've not seen any threads about this, so if there are then my apologies.
Any news on their anti-piracy strategy? If they try putting StarFarce or some other such crap in it that will DEFINITELY make it a non-starter for me....
Anyone want to kick this ball around?

There was a different one used in SH4.
I can't see why they would use SH-3,s protection.
So ya, duck before you get kicked in the nuts. :haha:

Non-starter just for that?
What's so dramatic? :shifty:

Were you present for SHIII and the issues some had with its protection?
That aside, I have a brand new rig set up with what I want on it. I am not about to introduce software about which I'm given no info, by which I mean nothing about how it works and what it changes.
I can live with online activation, but no way will I accept a security programme on the disc.
Well hopefully it will be similar to SH4, SecuRom at first then a late patch included a NoDVD fix!! I hate shoving disks in and out!!:yep:

I hate shoving disks in and out!!:yep: Sir, just when one was begining to think that you take to shoving things in and out. ;) A least you are a fair and open man to the cause, however painful and distressing this improper task may be. lmao:rotfl2: :rotfl2: with good intent of course. :yeah:

All of the game boxes are these "push to get cd out". Well i pushed to get my Call of Duty: Modern Warfare cd out. I made a little crack when doing that and it exploded inside my CD/DVD drive.

It was this little thing call starforce copy protections. It basicly thought you were a pirate that copy yhe software even though you had the right code validating iot was a legit peace of software. It took about 20 go,s or more to get into the game. I remember i had to keep the game running or otherwise i could get in for days. It took a mail to starforce to deactivate the copy protection provided you gave them the orginal code.

Ubi officially ended their agreement with Starforce back in 2006, so I think you're relatively safe: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6147655.html

For now at least. Who knows if Ubi will use another.

The best game protection they can have is to have a great game so everyone buys it .thats true. Eventually every game will be cracked and illegally downloaded. people are more likely to DL software that's in their opinion not good enough to pay for, while they still buy software they like, as a sort of reward to the devs.
(ah how i love subsims policy on this subject - took me 20 minutes to write this down in a way that ensures i wont get banned:damn:)

Just a friendly reminder so i dont have to get involved:
be carefull in what you say since this subject can cause someone to make an innocent slip of the tongue and get in trouble so choose your words carefully before hitting the "post" button
SUBSIM Review has a longstanding policy against software piracy. We do NOT allow discussion or even mention of warez, abandonware, peer-to-peer game swapping, illegal download sites, or sharing websites. Nothing will get you banned faster than pointing people to illegal software distribution sites. Do not ask for serial numbers, manuals, or cracks. Any admission that you have in your possession illegal software can and usually will result in revocation of your Radio Room forum account.
While the administrators and moderators of SUBSIM Radio Room Forums will attempt to remove or edit any generally objectionable material as quickly as possible, it is impossible to review every message. I certainly wasn't looking to discuss the forbidden topic. I am totally opposed to it.
Just wanted to ask about the means employed in SH5 to prevent it.
Fine line, I know, but worth raising I thought.
As you've not locked this thread or given me a slap I'm assuming it's OK provided we're sensible and take due care as mentioned in your post. I note Neal has also posted a thread about the 'issue'. Sorry if I'm leading anyone astray; certainly not my intention.
Cheers

you missunderstood my intention
this thread is fine, everything said so far is fine
i just wanted to remind anyone voicing opinions on the subject to remember whats ok to say and whats not ok to say on the subject
everyone has their own views on the topic and i dont want to slap a wrist or give infractions especially when someone is just giving an honest reply or opinion but my precationary post was to remind everyone not to be promoting or admitting to actually using no-cd cracks or admiting to using or doing something related to piracy

No, I figured this is what you were getting at.
Given the sensible zero tolerence policy toward the issue, it's good for people to be reminded when discussing something that is closely related.

I have to agree that if they use an invasive copy protection i won't bother with SH5. i can see how pirates cost the gaming companys money, but after i have proven i have a legal version of the game then i don't want anything playing big brother on my machine.

Wouldn't a system with a serial nr at installation be sufficient?
Paradox Interactive has done that for some time with their games. :)
