Is there any info on how the damage screen is going to look and work? Just my 5 cents worth, I loved the SH3 damage screen/interface and hated the SH4 damage screen. Will SH5 be similar to one or the other or something completly new?

I loved the AOD damage screen. It was the most realistic I've seen.
SH5? Unless they give us something, we won't know until we play the game.

I have to admit the damage screen in SH3 was pretty cool. Nice cutaway of the boat. SH4's wasn't that bad.

I heard that there won't be any damage screen. There will be only health bar over your sub. :yeah:

I remember now; yep, simple yet effective screens.

I would say that if there is water flooding the sub interior then you can assume its damaged . I guess this is how they will do it . They said that we will have to manage flooding and fire so i guess the damage screen will be gone and replaced with 3D water and fire . Just a wild guess though .

So, if there isn't going to be a damage screen (hypothetically speaking) are we supposed to go to every compartment for a damage assessment? :hmmm: To me, the damage screen is like a graphical representation of damage reports coming in from the different compartments.

yes and no, there is no info or images of it but early on dan was specific in saying that the way damages worked and how they are shown and handled will be totally new and nothing like you have seen them in sh3 or sh4

i actually wouldn't mind running around and assessing damage myself, offering encouragement to the men and attempting to keep things moving smoothly, actually. sounds well fun.
however, i wouldn't mind a sh3 type damage screen, and maybe with a top-view cutaway this time maybe :)

Now that sounds like a good idea.
It will be interesting to see how the damage control team is going to repair and what steps need to be in place before repairs are under way.

Yes loved the sh-3 damage screen. Also hated the sh-4 damage screen. It was a huge step backward from sh-3. The boats did not show cuteway view of the sub. Also i cant understand why the flooding was shown above the depicted sub insted of the cutway compartmens like in sh-3.

that would actually be amazing, i wonder if they'll implement something like that. even if it was only like two neverchanging actions per compartment, i'd love it.
on second thought, with the whole walking thing, i suppose they'll HAVE to add it in. all the better for us captains yea?:arrgh!:

FWIW I quite like the SH3 damage screen. Not too keen on how you allocate the repair crew and of course there's the "missing repair officer" bug, but otherwise, it had everything I needed in the one place, without me having to run around looking for it (God bless the repair officer and compartment heads and their regular reports - if I had to run around the boat myself, then...).

Hmmm, to be honest the damage screen i prefer is from SH (do you remember it? ) :|\\
I really loved the cutaways of the fleet boats
SH3 damage screen was also nice

Yes, they were cool. And functional.
But a long way from realistic.

I agree with you :salute:
But at the time of SH 1 there were no interior rooms modelled
In SH5 while we will normally spend most of the time in control room/conning tower/bridge, when the boat suffers any damage we can visit the rooms in FP so we can have a look at the damage/flooding and repairs underway
That way is more realistic instead of looking at a nice cutaway
So eye candy might add to realism :03:
I hope the devs had the time to add the damage/flooding in 3d interiors properly

As I said before the most realistic damage screen I've seen was way back in Aces Of the Deep. You had the blueprint, as shown in JScones' picture. If you had damage, the damaged area(s) would be circled. If you clicked on one of those circles you would read the Chief's report about the nature of the damage and the estimated repair time.
Very simple, very realistic from the point of view that that is exactly the way you would recieve the report, and also very immersive. Everything since has been more and more detailed, and less and less realistic.

I dout there will be one too. You'll have to get reports. Since you can go from compartment to compartment, you will get a feel for damage.
When a compartment is flooded up to your neck, you'll start to fade out , once water is over your head, your dead.
Same with CO2, youll fade out untill surfaced, or dead.
Atleased thats whaat I hope for.
