The numbers indicate that USA's populace is quite aware, and fed up with "representatives" that do not represent.

Forget the elections, this will solve everything. Cancel all of the elections.

Have a lottery for each office. Ticket prices:

$100 for POTUS
$ 50 for VP
$ 40 for Senate Seats
$ 30 for Congress

The drawback would be that the people in office paid to be there, but that's the way it works now anyway. The income could pay off the national debt and the random sampling of people would do a far better job then the current Government.

It might even catch on in other countries, just like many of our other dumb ideas like fractional reserve and derivtives.

Well the power to fix this problem rests with the citizens.

If your incumbent is who you like, contact his or her office and ask the magic words every politician likes to hear:

What can I do to help your campaign? They will tell you, but it will take work and time.

Find someone else you want to represent you work on their campaign to get them elected. Effort and time is what is needed.

It is really not that complicated. But there are too many people who are more willing to curse the darkness (post on internet forums) than are willing to light a candle (Work on some candidate's campaign).

To paraphrase Mark Twain; Everyone likes to complain about their representatives, but few are willing to do anything about it.

The solution is that more citizens need to take a more active role in the campaigning of the candidate of their choice.

Very good points, Mr. P.

I love the title: USA discontent with government.

You see, from the reading I've done, that statement has been true since the American government was born. Very few presidents have been so trashed by the newspapers of their own time as was George Washington. Of course at that time the newspapers were highly biased and mostly printed the owner's personal opinions.

Wait...what?
