View Full Version : Horible Deaths.
My two most horrible deaths in SHIV were in a typhoon class sub and a glitch wouldn't let fresh air be let in even if I was surfaced and we all died of Carbon dioxide poisoning. The other debatable more horrible death was I was patrolling of the coast of Luzon in a Gato class sub and i saw 5 ships( 3 gunboats and 2 battleships). I fired 3 MK-48 torpedo 2 ships sank. One of the remaining dropped depth charges and caused flooding. I began to unwillingly dive to over 500 feet. I responded to telling the crew to surface, no response then I commanded to blow the ballast and I surfaced:D. The ships were 2000 yards behind:damn:. So I dived again. I went to about 500 feet when I knew I had to surface, blow ballast. I had critical flooding so I never surfaced.
Please post your stories of gruesome deaths with pictures if you have them.

The death by asphyxiation is avoidable. Usually if you alt tab out of the game while submerged it causes the buildup of CO2 even when you surface. T fix it just save your game and reload.
Mined off the Northern coast of Honshu. once. We didn't see it coming. BAM!! Gone. Purple Hearts for everybody.
House 6 coming in and turning off the computer during the stalk of a 8 ship convoy....
Something about being "on that damn thing all day"
Then banished to picking up dog turds in the back yard with no beer.

You died not once, but again and again, indefinitely.

How do you know you were mined? I once was patrolling with no enemy ships around and all of the sudden we plunged like a rock and died. I am now thinking that perhaps we hit a mine as well.

You cannot get mined unless you're at periscope depth, I believe. In your case someone simply forgot to put the stopper back in the shower drain. ;)

mines are set to different depths, some at periscope depth, some as deep as 300 feet.In stock you are highly unlikely to ever hit one.In mods like TMO, RFB, RSRD, in certain areas they are a very real threat.
Something I plan to fix is where mines are a threat on surface in certain areas, like Tokyo Bay area, the straits, inner islands in philippines etc.

Actually evading an air attack though dived a bit too late.
Every thing seemed fine though a little shaken. We waited an hour or two and surfaced to check things out.
Order a course change, no response. Manually set left full rudder, no response.
Everything on the boat was fine with one exception. No rudder

sabot....:har::har::har: And after scooping up with a pooper scooper, you return to duty and find out that in your absence dds from TMO 1.9 have attacked and destroyed your hard drive. Then you begin the real life ETERNAL PATROL, which is where I am currently.:wah:

My most horrible death is as follows.
My first one, was after surviving a collision with a destroyer at 3 am in a heavy storm with fog. [Funny thing is, that neither of us knew about the other until that moment]. I managed to destroy the destroyer, and was running at back emergency due to massive flooding in the front half of my sub, and without paying attention I ended up running aground on a beach, destroying my sub in the process.
While I still believe my crew should of survived, the game listed my crew as K.I.A., and my sub as destroyed.

I had a large TF on sonar in a storm. I didn't use the cam yet to look, but did a rather long range shot by sonar and got several hits. I was back playing with sonar myself and came back to binocs and goofed. The Yamato was closer than I thought. By the time the crew warned he was blasting away.
Not fun running into the Yamato on the surface. It did about 80% damage before I got dived, just missing with the big guns.. Knowing if I stayed dived the dd's would do me in, I surfaced, but in sight of a DD...fought it out and tried to escape in the fog. I was at 90% damage with no rudder.
We lived, but no where to go without a rudder...game over. We starved on the open sea after 200 days.
The Yamato had moved on, but going slow...that would've been a good kill by sonar if I had got set back up on it.

caught in a sub net for two hours until I used the free cam to see that I would never get loose.
But what was worse is that my motherboard died right after one of ducimus' dds depth charged my boat. Now I am on this god damn laptop and I do not have the specs to play the game.:wah:
