View Full Version : will the life on the boat will be like in the trailer?

What do you guys think. I loved the trailer. Walking around the boat, everyone minding their own business. I saw sleeping, playing, writing, reading and drinking.

But.. but ... but.. the last gameplay video made a little concern. I did not see that life in the boat like it was on trailer. To me it just seems guys standing at their post, or standing still somewhere with couple of animation slapped on. It is jut like SH4 only you have more rooms to see guys doing their animation.

So all the time we made those stupid jokes about the chef offering us the soup. I fear that no one is going to offer that soup for us anyway. :wah:

Now this a very intersting question i'm wondering a lot about...
I totally fear that despite the fact that the last trailer advertise it as "real time ingame footage", I'm very aware that in most trailers, it is often more or so "lying advertising" ;)

I fear you'll have to understand "real time demo using the rendering engine", and by demo, understand "specialy scripted sequence made for trailer"...

I highly doubt the game will showcase this much living animation... Right from the start, my concerns has always been that it would be standing still crew with 2 or 3 animations looping forever, much like in sh3 or sh4... If it was like in the trailer though, man it would rocks!!! But my guess: don't count on it.

And my second guess: don't expect the devs to answer this too much intersting question... Asking such a question is irresponsible!!! :stare: As answering it might lead to too much happyness and the risk of selling more copies of SH5!!!
rather ask: "Are the health bars contrast and opacity going to be scalable in the option menu?", this they answer to since it's of no interest :know:

Or ask directly your question at this mail: SH5_Marketing_Manager @ Bucharest_Psychiatric_Hospital . com
this guy...knows his work... :haha:

I certainly hope so. Maybe they've implented few different animation states for the crew. You know, like the sounds are, all clear = crew doing stuff around the boat, enemy nearby = crew on battlestations etc. :hmmm:

The crew interaction and the living boat has been so big marketing thingy for SHV that it would feel pretty cheap for the devs to go back to how it is in SHIII & SHIV.

So let's recap. People wanted the ability to walk through the whole boat, even though that adds zip to the actual gameplay and mission of a U-boat. They get that. Now before the game is even released and all people have to go on is less than 10 seconds of actual in game footage of walking throughout the boat, they're complaining that what they get isn't good enough?

I think people need another hobby and to stop over-analyzing every bit of video Ubi has put out.

@ Mookie : I enjoy being one of the few who complain of what we can roughly expect from the game, before everyone else does once the game is released. :rotfl2:

Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see... But if it was the case, it would sure be a major step forward in immersion.

Was anyone ever able to mod the crew movements in SH3 or Sh4? If the animations are crackable or the voice scripts are then it will be OK down the line and not just boring after a day or two.

It was very complicated. As far as i know, nobody really ever found a way to do that. Lack of dedicated tools, maybe harcoded things or two... And of course general lack of scripting abilities. Never found ways to CREATE specific triggers you could tie to ANY given behaviour of the game and links them to a specific animation to call for them. Very complicated indeed

yep, i agree

i think the first trailer was pure fantasy land of "this is what we want it to be like", then the last trailer is the real truth and now you are seeing what they were actually able to do with the game.

sounds like mookiemookie was the one complaining, everyone else was just talking about legitimate concerns based on what we have been seeing and hearing out of ubi

First off, "legitimate concern" is opinion. What's legitimate to one person may not be to another.

based on what we have been seeing and hearing out of ubi

Which brings us to the point I was trying to make: we haven't heard or seen enough out of Ubi at all to even form a "legitimate opinion."

With all due respect, of course.

i was only saying that light heartedly in fun

i agree with you and share your concerns, but i also feel those who wish to speculate could be very correct in their assumptions.

we are all very anxious to get our hands on sh5 for a test drive and see if its what we hoped for or not but absent having that we are left with standing in the corner, fighting/talking with the wife/girlfriend, or making wild guesses and speculations based solely on our own wants and desires.

it shows in your posts that you care a great deal about this game but it comes accross in your posts that you are saying others shouldnt speculate/complain and i think that is expecting a lot given the fact that there isnt much else we can do untill march 2010.

dont take it to heart so much, the devs arent going to be insulted by comments based on speculation and ubi couldnt care less anyway.

Ahh, I'm not as serious as I come across. The way I see it, we can sit and fret and worry and get ourselves all worked up over things, or we can sit back and take what is given. The first option will not do much other than give us all heartburn, so I'm more along the lines of option 2.

I just find it kind of silly to criticize something when we know very little about it. Now, I know that's a by-product of not having much to look at or talk about other than the meager scraps of information being fed to us. Naturally people are going to overanalyze and scrutinize, but hey, let's at least give it a chance.

And don't worry, I'll be the first to rip into things that are not up to snuff. But first I have to know what I'm talking about before I do. Heck, I've already done it to Dan when they said the were leaving out a sabotage/breakdown model. ;)

Come again sir? do you jest? i could implement a sound volley in response to this statement, but i shall refrain. What however one cannot holdfourth from, is the statement addressed (Meager Scraps, Being Fed to Us.) This sir is distastefull, i for one am certainly no ravenous annimal, although i understand yor mindset i kindly believe the use of this remark a little rude. Wouldnt (other than leaked snipets, lack of information, presently offered to the sh5 community) be more appropriate if including Us. (Meager Scraps, Being Fed to Us.) is a very common term used to describe "having little to nothing given to you" which describes very well the situation of how much info has been given, or rather not given to us about the game so i believe something was lost in the translation there from one style of speech to another because there was nothing rude there by my understanding

just goes to show that depending on where you are from, the same words can have different meanings or be recieved differently

Perhaps it is my assumption that is misplaced!! but i consider this matter to be of relevance, i stand my ground and shall sound out in good order as it is my prerogative to respond to something i deem unworthie, or see cause for concern when (all) are being addressed. I dont know if Mookie is talking about the thread i created or about the ranting we see in this forum. If you are talking about my thread then allow me to explain. (please bear with my english)

First of all, i did not criticize or overanalyzed anything. I just raised a question because there is SO MUCH information that does not go together very well. UBI has released two gameplay videos to community. On one we have a boat full of life (remember the "In game footage" in trailer) and then just couple of months before release we get another In game video that has absolutely no life on boat. The crash dive did not resemble the one we saw in first trailer.

Everything that got me exited about SH5 was on the first trailer. The last gameplay video was just SH4 with better graphics. And i dont think that it will get better because time for SH5 has ran out, so it should be almost finished version.

So there might be a chance that there is no point buying SH5. Just download Tomi mod and you will get basically the same game. (Only with better engine rooms :rotfl2:)

I hope that i am wrong and i am not bashing the game. I will wait when it comes out and then we will see.

The thing is: we are dealing with up to 50 seperate AIs that would have to be programmed to do all sort of things to great truly authentic U-boat experience - and that is not a minor task. I have faith in the developers working more on the crew's behaviour than we have seen so far, though.

There will of course be limitations, but I think that what all the development team members should do at some point is to gather 'round, sit tight and watch the uncut version of Das Boot - that would give them an excellent idea of what they must aim for at least.

I expect to see more AI action... but not like the vedio... Im guessing the ai will have acouple of animations per ai, and off duty ai will probably walk around abit, or sleep.

Well, I've already admitted in the 'Upgrade just for SH5' thread that the only reason I have for getting a new computer is that mine won't run SH5 at all, and that I will do so when I can.

That means that SH5 is going to cost me in excess of $1000.
