Hi - I'm new to sh3, and I'm currently running a vanilla 1.4 install. I've been using the mission creator with a lot of success until today. My realism settings are at 100%, yet I'm now getting enemy map contacts. This hasn't happened before. Is this a known issue, or is there something I can do to remedy this? Btw, the contact showing on the map is actually there, but my hydrophone (both manual and SO reports) doesn't detect it (C3 cargo) even though I'm only 1000 meters away. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm pretty new myself but I'll take a stab. I play with 100% realism as well, but I do get contact reports that are identified on the map as little circles and squares--the difference from a lesser realism setting is that these contacts are not updated. I get the approximate position, course, and speed of the contact, and that's it--it's up to me to intercept it, or not, from info amounting to Grid Reference AN 26 @ 14:10 , heading NW, speed Medium. Sometimes I do get an update--maybe 10 hrs later after the contact has passed me by 200 km, or, more often, if I guessed closely, and the contact is close to me. Don't know what the parameters are for that.

Is this what you are talking about? If you have little circles and squares that are cruising around on your map (continuously updated) check your realism settings again. Open single mission and see if the settings are correct.

As far as the Hydrophone is concerned--that can be affected by many factors. I think especially so in GWX which models certain environmental factors which can affect Hydrophone performance. Bad weather limits its functionality, I think depth plays a role. The position of the contact relative to you (early hydrophones don't work in a full 360deg arc, your own engines can mask contacts), if your sonar man is exhausted or inexperienced...could be many things. It's a common experience for me to have a target right on top of me and my sonar man reporting "no sound contact". Stop the engines, or turn the boat, or go a little deeper, and Bingo, there it is.

The game with GWX is a complex little nut to crack. I've been playing it hard for a month and I'm only beginning to appreciate some of the finer points.

Then again, you may have a real problem--software conflict, bad install, corrupt something or other which will require an actual intelligent person to come along help you solve it. There are many such people belonging to this Forum as I can attest.

Nod - thanks for your reply. You might very well be right in that while i did get a contact on the map, that position might not have been being updated. After I saw that contact on the map I immediately assumed that something was wrong because up until that point I'd never before gotten any such markings when playing with full realism. I closed out the game to check my realism settings and found everything to be as I'd left it, so I assumed something else was wrong. I'll watch for this in the future and see if it happens as you've described it. Thanks again.

It sounds like you're getting sound advice where sounds are concerned, and properly updated on the map problem.

All I can say is WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:
