After spending two hours of x1 TC getting into the perfect position to fire upon HMS Hood, she got away... IT CHEATED DAMMIT!

For some reason after I selected "salvo" in the TDC I couldn't change fish speed to fast... but didn't think too much of it. I fired a fan of 4 fish at her from only 780m...

She saw them through the mist and accelerated from a steady 14knts to 20ish within' 4 seconds. I mean WTF... a 48500ton ship DOES NOT speed up that fast!

So determined as I was, I reloaded (only time I did it!). I am determined to send Hood to the bottom.

This time, I had to fire at 1500m after a DD got a wee bit too close for comfort. Fired four fish again... now USUALLY when you select salvo if you change the speed of the fish it does the same for all. This time though, it only applied that change to ONE. So I got one direct hit just forward of the bridge superstructure and clipped her by the rudder. She listed a little bit but carried on until she was out of sonar range as if nothing had really happened.

My God! Am I cursed or something? Is history determined to keep that rust bucket afloat for the Bismark? :damn::damn::damn::damn::damn::damn:

No, 14-20 knots should take more like four minutes. It's an old and well-known problem, but no one has ever seemed to be able to fix it.

Bad luck!

The darned Hood got away from me last week aswell, she's a slippery one!
About the salvo, are you sure all of your selected torpedoes were steam-driven? If only one of them was, it would make sence the other 3 wouldn't go as fast as you'd like them to =)

Also, in your first salvo you couldn't select the fish to go fast, maybe they were electric aswell? If so, the Hood shouldn't have been able to spot them through the mist...

Again, bad luck!

LMAO :DL

Now how did I know this thread would appear :03:

I never fire salvos at fast movers unless all four eels are the same type because the game automatically defaults every eel to that of the slowest one in the salvo mode.

I set each eels depth and speed prior then fire one at a time, quickly pressing Q after each launch and allowing a few seconds for the door/hatch to open.

Hope that makes more sense considering how it reads :hmmm:

And more realistic as well. Even when a salvo was launched, they were fired an absolute minimum of five seconds apart; otherwise there was a danger of the torpedoes interfering with each other.

Bummer! Yep, the lack of inertia is a bit of a problem. :yep:

I hate mixed torpedo armament for exactly that reason :(

In the beginning of the war I tend to rely on atmospheric torpedos and only carry a single electric one in tube 2 (and tube 6 in a type IX boat). No 4-torpedo salvos at high speed, but I like the ability to have a stealthy shot when I need it.

Shame we can't borrow some torpedos from our Japanese allies... they used pure oxygen instead of compressed air. Fast, long range, and since there is no left-over nitrogen after the combustion process no bubble trail either.

Try the "Thomsen's Ships" mod. It's a godsend.

Sounded cool so I looked for it but the one I found seemed to be for SH4 - is there one for SH3 and is it okay to run with GWX3 and SHCommander?

With all their flaws i love electric eels, i don't like when ships do drag race away from torps
