so i picked up SH4 + uboat missions on steam for pretty cheap as i havent been able to find u boat missions anywhere in new zealand.
am just trying to get RFB + RSRD working with it but am not sure how steam handles things

tried doing it through JSGME once and the whole thing wouldnt start up after that. needed a redownload. not so keen at 5.5 gig a go

anyone had to do it before or any advice?

Instead of doing DL's, just make backups and have them if you need them.

I have several different folders for mod set ups.

If I plan to use RFB, I'll create a new folder on the DT and name it RFB. I'll only DL mod's related to RFB in that folder. I have seperate folders for other mods.

I also make a folder called tools..where I DL JSGME and zip tools, skwas, and other tools related to the game that aren't mods themselves.

Once you DL jsgme to whatever folder you did, you move it to your SH4 dir. before you run it. Don't place it in the data folder. Run JSGME from you're SH4 dir. It will create a mod's folder there..and of course follow the prompt directions, ect.

If you use RFB and DL it to your RFB folder or whatever folder you created, you unzip it there. You take the unzip file created...the mod itself and place it in your mods folder. You can open up your SH4 window beside your mod's folder window and drag it to your mods folder or just copy it your mods folder.

JSGME will have created a shortcut on your DT, open and activate your mods.

With supermods I activate them before I start the game. Most other mods you can activate in the office. I prefer to activate all my mods before I start the game. I just think it's the safer way to go and less risk of screwing up files.

Hopefully that makes sense. It can be complicated at first. I know I spent days trying to figure it out to the point of giving up. Course I'm older, but once I figured it out, it was really simple. My mistake was putting the mod folder in the data file...oops.

Steam's auto update can ruin mods. Make sure you turn it off before modding.
