And there we are: life ticking away, another year over, and all bottles already emptied again - bad timing to start another year! :woot:

Have a good one and for the love of god, be drunk! You'll never ever have a chance to be drunk on 31/12/2009 again, so make it count. :()1:

Yes, yes it does. Remember that when someone asks why you drink so much, you are simply celebrating another date that will be forever history after it's over. :salute:

Happy New Year ... come on 2010 be nice to us
Why I can remember 1969 like it was just yesterday there I was on the sonar stack in the middle of the Med going real slow about 4 kts when I heard a strange hissing sound coming at us a little off the port bow, going real fast, much too fast to count the blades.
Hit the tape recorder to figure out what it was, put a man on the BQQ3 to analize it ... by golly gee that sounds like a Russian November class, but by that time it had already gone on towards it's westward journey to who knows where.
Conn/Sonar Lost contact in the baffles
It was easier that way

It's 3 1/2 hours to the new decade here on the High Lonesome. So I send Happy AND Prosperous New Year Wishes to all the scurvy swabs who frequent this somewhat disreputable site. Somehow, you can always tell when you're in a waterfront dive. Here's the wish that Sailor Steve gets a good-paying job and permanent place of his own as Utah coordinator for the Islamic Society of America's outreach program to provide free Korans to their Mormon coreligionists in the state. Here's wishes that our esteemed site owner actually has a chance to BUY the USS Texas, fit her with a crew and go raiding Pirate sanctuaries along the Somali Main for the salvage money. Here's hoping I actually find gainful employment.
So Happy New Year to all.

All kinds of alcohol will give you a hangover when drunk in sufficent quantities, it is basic chemistry.
I was surprised my head hurt in the morning though, only had a bottle of champagne.

Hmm, you sure you're alright? Bruises heal, but a dented ego takes a little longer to recover from. ;)
Thankfully I managed to contain the bodily harm to my brain and liver. :)

Over the afternoon I had a difficult and very absorbing match of chess (a hard negotiated draw, which against Hiarcs on tournament level always scores as a victory in my book), during the evening then a tasty Raclette and a bottle of cool Freixenet Semi Secco. Show porgram during dinner, and afterwards: DVD Riverdance (Butler/Dunne), New York 1994, followed by the Corrs' live in the Royal Albert Hall 1998, and finally a show program by the Berliner Geschwister Pfitzer, Have A Ball!
I am no party animal, nor do I enjoy to get really drunk, occassionally being a bit tipsy is okay. If the above sounds like a pleasant evening to you, you are right. It was.
