View Full Version : Weird CTD, any help?

Scenario:

Playing in the asiatic fleet, and now am now in early 1942. I'm sent to patrol in the south chinese sea. I kill a 8kt freighter with my deck gun before arriving, and then I stumble upon a convoy: 4 fubukis, a large liner of some sort. I report it, and get told to down some escorts to soften it for another attack... I go in and get spotted voluntarily to attract the escorts so I can fight them one by one. I damage one enough that he turns and goes back to the liner. Fine, I'll get him later.

I sink the next two (completing the objective), but the last is on me and I don't have a good angle, so I go deep and start making my way to the liner and damaged escort to try to get those. I manage to evade the DD, and I get to about 8000 yards away from him. I save here, considering myself lucky enough to have gotten those two escorts.

Problem: they're too fast. And then suddenly, the damaged fubuki sinks (and I get that nice kill icon on the map). Well ok then, I'll get the last one, then gun down the liner. I surface to attract the last escort, and he comes steaming along at over 30 knots. When he's close enough, I launch one torpedo from my stern tubes. Hit, but he's still floating. Another. Hit! And a big explosion! And... CTD? Dammit!

So I start again from my save and repeat the same steps... and I crash at exactly the same moment: right after the last DD gets hit by my second torpedo.

Third time's a charm, right? I try to make my own luck, though: I saved right after my torpedo hit, but before any crash... And crash again. Reload from my save... crash three seconds in (I barely had enough time to swing my periscope around to see him sink).

TL;DR: I crash right when a certain destroyer escort (presumably) sinks from my torpedoes in a certain way, and it happens every time, even when loading from save. Perhaps there is a link with the fact that I was assigned to hurt the escort, but now I've completely killed it?

Hardware:
P4 3.2ghz
1.5gb RAM
Radeon x300 128mb VRAM (Yes, I know it's bad, but it's int he list of the officially supported video cards... Yes, I lag somewhat).

Drivers are updated.

Using SHIV 1.5 (I have U-Boat missions) and RSRDC (installed with JSGME). If it is of any importance, I have the steam version.

Any help? I'm going to try just not looking that the escort as it sinks... maybe it's just a rendering bug of some sort.

EDIT: Never mind, just tried, I crashed without even looking at my periscope.

Thanks in advance!

Well, your weak on ram and specs are low and that can cause wierd things. My last rig was weak on ram and video and I would get wierd crashes all the time. Meeting the min. specs really is a joke when it comes to gaming, moreso if you're running added mods.

I take it you're running stock with RSRD alone, no supermods, so are you sure you're running the right version of RSRD for stock? Haven't checked, but I assume one exist.

I take it this is a single mission. If so, which one? Just never heard of being told to attack escorts unless it's a single mission.

That save is fubar, you can give that up, but maybe solve the problem. Have you tried other missions, ect...working, not?

Yeah, I figured it's just an odd bug. I restarted from the first save I described above and simply went away... It's 3 escorts instead of 4 escorts and a big liner, but ah well.

It's in a campaign; I got the "kill the escorts" objective when I reported the convoy via radio.

I'm pretty sure it's the proper RSRD version (I've got no supermods). Besides, this is the 3rd or 4th patrol I'm doing in that campaign; I figure if something was wrong with the mod itself, everything else would have been FUBARed.

Thanks!
