So far I think it's *ish!
It took me quite a while to get to grips with SH3 when I started,- the instruction manual was poor, but I never "didn't like it"....just wasn't very good at it. Never played it at more than about 60% realism, but enjoyed it, especially with the GWX mods.
But '4'..... I've got at "easy" whilst I familiarised with it, but been flooded twice or three times now in the stern..... This recent occasion I had to manually put crew into the Damage duty (....????) but it seems that the bulkheads may be too badly damaged. So if it's too badly flooded SINK !!! rather than sit with the bow pointing up.....
Did other users feel this way when changing from "3" to "4"?
Am I being hasty?

I think the biggest adjustment most new players have to 4 have is the geography. It's a bigger ocean. Watch that fuel meter, and keep the long range cruising to about nine knots. You can't teleport home if the tanks run dry. ;)

Install one of the super mods is a must for SH4 .

Never played 3, but it can be quite a dance with 4 if you get critical flooding. If you have enough battery power you may be able to keep it from heading to the bottom with enough speed. You also have to pay attention. If you're going down by the bow, forward speed will send you to the bottom faster, so you reverse, going down by the stern, obvious go forward. You may have to blow tanks a few times and use planes to push you down before you surface, but then gotta repeat this process.
If your flooded and still holding, you don't have critical flooding yet. Watch the flood meters.
You can tell your level of flooding by watching the water fill the compartment in the damage screen and will tell you the amount of time you have for it to flood and repair. If your repair time is much longer than flood time, your in trouble. If it's totally flooded or a few compartments, you're eventually gonna sink to the bottom. Usually your still under attack making it worse. One mistake and you can head for the bottom fast and with damage, it won't take long to die.
You better have a good damage crew and be at battlestations. Also fill the damaged compartment up with good repair people. Repair bulkheads, trim pumps first, maybe batteries if you need speed to stay up.
Be nice if we could have total control over the planes, instead of just up and down to help hold a dive.
Not sure what you're asking exactly or just comparing, but I've made it out of some nasty dives...and died in many of them. Best thing is not to let the DD's get you...I'll take my sub to the breaking point, hundreds of feet deeper than the red line, but one foot more...boom.

Excuse me Captain, but we of the silent service are on the prowl, like the Big Cats, when the sun goes down. We hunt meat at night, especially on those dark, dark nights. Its also easier to avoid air strikes. I recommend a "day" job from noon till nine, so you don't miss any patrols. :D
