Alright, I've been looking all over my house for my SH4 manual because I can't find where in the game you can see a ship's lenght in the Ship Recognition Manual inside the game.. If you guys can tell me if it is even in there/supposed to be in there it'd be a lot of help

Suggested uses for the SH4 manual:

1) Starting a camp, fireplace or BBQ fire.
2) Cat litter, after shredding.
3) Placing under short table leg.
4) As a colorful coaster.

Suggested non uses for the SH4 manual:
1) finding out anything about the game.

You can't get any useful ship length data from the Ship Recognition Manual.
I have a PDF file of most of the ships in stock 1.5 that list ship lengths.
I'll see if I can find it and post it if I do find it. ?????

That's how I remembered it, too, but after looking at the 100 Percent Realism TDC guide by Hitman he says to use the ship recognition manual to get the length of the ship, and I don't see it anywhere in there.. So let me rephrase! Where in the game(during gameplay) can I find data about the length of a ship that I've got in my sights and identified?

That's exactly it.. I don't see length listed in the in game ship recognition manual.. Maybe it's not listed as 'length' and I'm just blind.. Screenshot please?

I don't use Hitmans TDC guide so I don't know where he gets his ship length data from. There are many who use this system so maybe they can help you.

But you can't get ship length from the manual, There is a bar graph at the bottom but it is not accurate as far as I know. This is realistic because in real life the data was not available to the captain.

I can't upload that file to my host so someone else may be able to do it.

Sorry I can't help you more. :06:

By the way Welcome to SubSim and have a Merry Christmas.

@ Sailor Steve. Merry Christmas and you are up late tonight.

That's quite alright I've found a few other methods that I like better.. mainly being the Dick O'Kane.. brilliant!

Edit: Feel free to share your favorite methods here as well so that I can take a look! The stickies here are tremendously helpful.

I use Vector Analysis almost exclusively, which is like O'Kane but you can shoot from any angle not just 90°. Rockin' Robbins has it in his "bag of tricks" thread.

Use the three minute rule for speed and course and that is all you need. Range doesn't matter. You don't need ship length either.
225,000 tons last patrol with one refit. 2 Kongo BB, 4 large troop ships and 3 large passenger/freighters in that total. All but 1 or 2 were with vector shots and not a single depth charged dropped.

For maneuvering targets I use the TDC and PK. This takes some practice but I seldom miss now.

Merry Christmas Task Force :yeah:

There's ship length in the RM in SH3, but there never has been in SH4 unless one alters the game code. However, the game *does* use ship length as a value. You can find a certain ship's length by going to your data\Sea\*Folder with Name of Ship*\*Name of Ship*.cfg file. There you'll find the length of any ship in the game in meters (just don't change anything in those files!).

For instance, say I wanted the ship length of the Yamato. I'd go to Data\Sea\NBB_Yamato and open the NBB_Yamato.cfg file (in Notepad). There I would see that the game uses a length of 263 meters.

Be warned, though, that mods may change these values. I'm thinking these are arbitrary values put in by the game designers in relation to the 3D models they made. If your game is modded to use different models, they may possibly be longer or shorter than stock without changing the .cfg value.

by the way, the game manual pdf is in the main game folder inside the "support" folder
