send yourself a christmas present by sending in a small donation to subsim to keep this site running

think about it, how much did you spend on that relative you wish you didnt know and didnt want to buy a gift for :06:

i'm sure you like subsim a lot more then many of those people you hardly knew but still bought gifts for so pitch in and help neal.

it costs a lot of money to keep this site running and i dont think neal is on bill gates' donations list so no big donors are sending in huge checks so its up to you and me to pitch in.

trust me, neal isnt making any money from doing this so give whatever you can, if thats $5, $10, $15, $25, or whatever you give please give something :salute:

see details here: http://www.subsim.com/sh2fleet_forms/donation_fundraiser.htm

You know, many of our submarine simulations have a World War Two theme. A well known quote about World War Two... 'some gave all, all gave some.'

Now i know Neal doesnt expect us to give all... but we can certainly give some.

I have been a forum member since March of 2007. In that short time i have made many friends, and i have learned so much about submarines, and the rich history of Submarine Combat Operations. I visit this site every single day... sometimes more than a dozen visits before lunch time. it is my home away from home on the internet.

I have never been in the navy, but ask any navy vet and he will tell you... your boat, IS your home away from home, she is your pride and joy.

Subsim.com... is our boat.

We should all show our pride in her.

a few bucks? hell... this glass of beer cost me that much.

Prost! to Subsim!

I really need to get myself am internet-ready credit card. Need a job for that tho. I hope fundraising isn't reserved for the end of the year only.
By the way. This site gathers a LOT of traffic. Why not sell a few more add spots(no popups though)? They should keep the site running without problems and give a profit too. Maybe get an add from Coke-Cola... Hell, I drink 2.5 litres every day thanks to SH :D

I am at a loss as to how it can cost $600 per month. I do not disagree with the idea, just bemused at the cost.

Bandwidth costs money unfortunately. The downside of having a popular site is you use rather a lot of it.

When a website has a lot of traffic and bandwidth, as Subsim does, it takes a dedicated server to manage it. With SH5 coming in a few months, traffic here will double (at least). I run two servers from The Planet, https://www.theplanet.com/servers/pr/Default.aspx

Just smile with pride :) you did your part. The fundraiser will end in a few days, and no one will hear me about $$ again for a while.

It will be a few days after Christmas before I can send a few dollars to Neal... but I'll be doing just that.

Guys, this is a valuable site. It is VITAL to the furtherance of PC submarine/naval simulations and is well worth your efforts to preserve it.

We may not see eye to eye on all matters that come our way, but you will likely never find a more tolerant site or administrator.

It is because Neal is so tolerant, that there is something useful here for EVERY user... in particular, and most important to me... LASTING FRIENDSHIPS. I imagine that for most of you, your situation is much like mine... You'd like to talk about submarine stuff to someone around you... and all you get is a bored stare. :o We submarine enthusiasts... are a rather strange breed after all! There are many more of us than there were a few years ago... but we are still few. THIS is the community with the only real gravitational pull in our niche.

For these reasons... it simply must survive. Any successor even pretending to replace Subsim in the future, would need years to take root... with 'costs' that do not require much imagination to envision.

Now imagine for a moment... this time next year, with no Subsim... and the members of this community scattered to the four winds.

Personally, I think I'd feel rather lost. How would you feel?

Great or small, I hope that each of you will do what you can to keep diesel in the tanks here.
