Hello. It's been a while since I've been on these forums and since I've played SH4. I decided to fire the game up again recently. I was doing the practice mission where you try to sink the cruiser and my torpedoes are on target but they are passing right through the hull as if it wasn't there. No detonation, no bouncing off the hull....they just keep going. I've gone to external camera and watched them, they aren't running under the hull. they are going right through it and out the other side.

Is this a bug anyone else has ever encountered? I thought maybe it was a mod combination I was using so I even tried removing all mods in JSGME and I still have this problem. Any suggestions?

How close were you?

The only time I've had fish pass through a target is when I fired too close, so the torp' didn't have time to arm.

When I fire them too close, they hit the target, stop and sink to the bottom. I haven't seen them ever just pass through the target.

Yes. this is what they should do if you are too close. This was in the training mission so they wouldn't set you up too close to the target. The torpedoes are just passing through the ship as if it was a "ghost ship"

What version of the game are you running, any mods..

What depth are you setting the torps. Have you tried 5ft setting? What type torps...M!4's?

Sounds like a bug, but I would run them as shallow as possible and try both settings, contact and influence.

Try a different mission and see if the same thing happens, different ships, ect...

Could be the one ship that's bugged...what type is it?

there was reports of a ship with missing damage zones where if you hit it just right the torps pass right through because the game doesnt think it hit anything.

i thought this was fixed in one of the patches thou

I'm running 1.4. I am running mods but when I discovered this bug I ran it with no mods and it still happened. The ship is the Japanese Cruiser that is used on the training tutorial for "torpedo practice." I watched the torps pass right through the hull with the external camera.

here is my only theory. I recently installed a new hard drive. I moved the entire Ubisoft game file over to the new hard drive but the SH4 folder in "Documents and Settings" had to stay on my old hard drive. Would this effect something as specific as this torpedo bug? I played the game for several hours in a campaign mission with no problems. I then tried a training mission and noticed the torpedo bug. Everything else runs fine..

Thanks for the help thus far.

I seem to recall that someone else had that very problem in the training mission but don't recall how he fixed it or if he did fix it. I think he just ignored it and played his campaign with no problems. Can't find the old post in fact I looked at the date of this one to see if it was that old one. It was 5 or 6 months ago.

Well. The other problem that has started is that in the actual game, if I do get a torpedo hit, the game crashes just as the torp hits. I am guessing this may be a video card/driver problem because the game doesn't know how to play the explosion animation. Just a theory. I am going to reinstall and see if I can figure this out.

Sounds like you were better off with the torpedoes passing right trough the target. :haha:

Make sure you install the directX9 that came on the disk, that sometimes will cause this type of problem.

Ok. Reinstalled and that seemed to fix it. I also made sure to install the directX version that came with the game. Thanks everyone for your help. Back to the deep...
