I wonder if Scott will ever realise this project he claims to have put his heart into, "The Forever War". More than 15 years he tried to buy the rights, and then he did so 2 or 3 years ago - and he doesn't get started. I mean the man is 70+ years of age and he does not become any younger... I wait for this project more than for any other movie he is planning (last time I read about him he was said to be engaged in almost one dozens films his company produces or that he even plans to direct himself in parts).

Sure it can. Anything can be a disappointment. I hope to be pleasantly surprised, but I'll wait to see it before I say anything.

I think the best Robin Hood movie was The Court Jester, with Danny Kaye. My personal favorite is still the TV series Robin Of Sherwood.

So basically it is in fact Gladiator II. Hundreds of years have passed, Maximus has forgotten his past, and has rooted his new life in the Dark Ages to kill the English- like Mel Gibson (twice, Braveheart and the Patriot).

I hope they let do him the cutting. Consider Kingdom of Heaven - initially a lousy cut by demand of the producer and the investors, the cinema version flopped, the story was too crippled - and the audience took note of that. Later came the director'S cut - and it was a completely new movie, much improved in content, complexity and length, and one of the most impressive movies I have ever seen, and critics of the origianl release that they had buried it, now became enthusiastic. Or take Gladiator: while the release version already was very good, the director's cut also turned it into a new movie that again was so very much better.

If you have picked a director to compose and arrange the story telling - don't interfere with him anymore. In case of Scott, chances are - and his record shows - that he simply knows better how to arrange the plot of his story. Doing the cutting is not the job of either the producer or the investors.

I was fortunate enough to not see the release version of the Kingdom of Heaven, but instead I got my hands straight on to the director's cut. Awesome movie. :yep:

And on another hand, I dont think I've ever seen the director's cut of the Gladiator. :dead:

Hollywood CAN screw this up and I'm expecting them to. Remember the Kevin Costner Robin Hood ? :nope:

It seems that whenever Hollywood gets a hold of something famous or classic , they almost ALWAYS completely screw it up somehow.

We still havn't gotten a proper "War Of The Worlds" yet after three tries and there are LOTS of other examples.

What I would like to see is Hollywood taking something famous, and classic, and taking the gamble that the film watchers are actually INTELLIGENT rather than dumbing everything down or tossing in all the crazy special effects for the attention deficite dissordered.

as long as Kevin Costner doesnt charm the chastity belt off some chick in this one - it should be good.

Ridley Scott - Yes!!!

Russel Crowe - No :nope:

It will be a flop cause of Crowe, dont get me wrong i loved his acting in Gladiator, 3:10 Yuma and State of play to name a few. But running around as a poncy Robin Hood with a bow helping the poor. I wont stop laughing! :DL

Mel Gibson played William Wallace in Braveheart well i think he should act the part of Robin Hood.

He called the greatest archers to a tavern on the green;
They vowed to help the people of the King.
They handled every problem on the English country scene;
And still found plenty of time to sing!

Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen.
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, with his band of men.
Feared by the bad, loved by the good;
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood!

Yep, it might be a laugh riot. It does seem like a typical Hollywood production so probably nothing to rave about.

Mel Gibson played William Wallace in Braveheart well i think he should act the part of Robin Hood.Gibson? A little too...maniacal perhaps? He could play a crazy Robin Hood.

Noticed that there's a Sherlock Holmes - movie coming out as well. I guess it's 'rehash the British tales' - time in Hollywood.

Why did they pick Russel Crowe when it's so obvious that Leonardo Dicaprio would be a better choice?? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?

Scott's version wont the be usual "happy guys living in the woods singing songs and helping poor peeps" RB, but a more darker one (I think one could use Dark Knight vs. earlier Batmans as comparisation). Obviously, the plot will be about revenge, Robin comes home and sees his father hanged and his lands taken, then we see Robin drool abit on his dead father's grave (see gladiator) and then hack n' slash until the Sheriff is dead, ow and that other guy. Real king comes back, gives Robin his lands back and he then goes to shag the lady whatsamacallher.

I remember the first time I watched it. It opens with a song and dance, and I think to myself: "What the hell is this CRAP!!!!!!"

But I gave it a few more minutes, and ended up loving it.

Prince John: And why should the people listen to you?
Robin Hood: Because, unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent.
[referring to the then recent blockbuster Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, in which Kevin Costner played the role with an American accent]

Robin Hood is English.....

Also I think Russel Crowe will do a better Englishman than Mel Gibson doing a Scot. How I hate Braveheart............Unfortunately people round the world seem to base their Scottish history on that one film.

At least Robin Hood is a was he was he not kind of character.

I know this is going off topic but after Braveheart and The Patriot I couldn't help but get feeling that Gibson doesn't like the English, almost like he has an axe to grind.

I know that movie for almost two thirds of my life now, and must have seen it 30-35 times, I know every line spoken and could act in any role in any scene and know every gesture and every motion and every facial expression - and still it gives me a shiver when just remembering the sounds, the looks, the music - or that rainy gloomy evening when I saw it the first time ever in a small, dirty Off-cinema in Berlin. I was still at school and had to smuggle myself through at the desk, due to the age limit.

Must be some kind of an obsession, i admit. Only very few things I ever strolled over, have had so much influence over me in my life.

I meant was he a real historical character or not? Did he exist or is he an amalgam of several guys from that time in history.

Now as for the wearing tights things and his sexuality. Well that is a different story.

Robin Hood, Robin Hood and his merry men,
Used to lure their enemies back into their den,
Knock them out and tie them up for a bit of fun
Then take away their trousers and take them up the bum.

Part of the problem is that while the earliest mention of Robin Hood (Piers Plowman, 1377) could place him as early as King Richard's reign, the earliest story which actally mentions a king (A Lyttel Gest of Robyn Hode, 1510) makes it "Our good King Edward", meaning most likely Edward II (1284-1327), who wasn't even born until almost 100 years after Richard Lionheart died.

Little John is the only companion of Robin who is mentioned in any of the original ballads. Tuck, Marian, Will Scarlett - they all came along much later.

Many of the stories of Robin Hood's deeds are also told of other outlaws, men whose existence is verified in royal documents. No person by the name of 'Robin Hood' is ever mentioned in any official source.

I recently reread an old favorite covering the subject in detail, but as I borrowed it from a friend I can't remember the exact title or the author. I spent some time going back over the 'What Are You Reading Right Now' thread, but of all the many books I've read in the last four years, I forgot to mention that one.:damn:

But here is a good website:

Ja, dat's ze vun!

I've told this story before, but with the debate going on over the SH5 trailer voices I have to repeat it here.

Back in the SH2/DC days people actually complained the other way; that is they didn't like the English voices having German accents. But the best part was when a German user of Destroyer Command posted asking if someone could send him a full DC sound file set. It seems that the German version only had German voices, speaking in a bad American accent, and he wanted the real thing.

What goes around comes around.
