Hi everyone!

just bought an old PIV 2,8Ghz with a AGP mainboard for 20$ and I'm wondering what the best AGP card for this rig is that will play SHIV well. Currently I'm palying SH3 on an Intel shared memory GMA945, so basically everything will be a huge upgrade. At the moment I want to upgrade just a little little bit until sometime next year (SH5:D), when a new computer is due to.

So:

I know AGP cards are not up to today's standards, but can someone recommend a card that is not bottlenecked by the PIV 2,8 Ghz?

Thanks!

I have a PNY Geforce 7600 GS w/500 meg ram in a 6 yr old Dell with that processor that works fine with some of the graphic enhancements turned off

I've moved on to PCI-E but my old rig had an XFX GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X which as previous posters have noted will run SH4 but you'll likely need to dial back some graphics options.

But you're in luck because despite AGP going the way of the buffalo there is a very robust AGP board still in manufacture. Not sure the specs on your Mobo but here's the link:

Don't forget to put 2GB of inexpensive Ram to help that 512mb vid card along. Ram is a cheap upgrade.

Just curious. Is that P4 cpu a hyper thread ? And you could OC it to 3.0 easy without fear.

Thanks for all the help! What Do you think about the ATI 3650? I could get it (Germany) for 45€, whereas the 3850 - IIRC the "best" AGP card still around would cost me 80€. Is is worth it? For a graphic card that I will replace sometime near in the future? I know, answer impossible:DL

The 7600gt agp I could get for 60€ which would nicely be in between, is the efficiency also just in between the ati 3650 and the 3850?

FIREWALL: No idea what a hyper thread is, I come from a Mac background. Where could I check for this?

I'm running an ASUS AH3450 512 (yes, AGP) with a 2.4 GHz dual core processor with 3 gigs of ram and it runs SH4 with all the settings on and up (other than volumetric fog) at 25 fps-ish. It's not bad. so if the card you are getting is better than the card I have now, you should have no problem with a machine that matches/exceeds the specs on mine.
