I would be happy to model a freighter ship, and texturing it, as long as someone can tell me how a model can be inserted into the game.

The first mod will probably be something simple, and asthetic in nature. A fix to some minor annoyance so that they might better enjoy the game - published by someone who is not really thought of as a modder.

Fully agree. Although it may not be just to fix a minor annoyance. I think more likely it will be something like changing the soup colour, or a sound file...ie a personal preference thing.

Or will it be one of those games who are now tied to online portals and be supplied over this with new content ( payware and free content) ... keywords: DLC :hmmm:
Example: SH5 comes at release only with two playable sub types. Other playable subs and area of operations are available in the following months, as paid downloads over such portals.

With many of these games, mods are excluded, because all players must play with the same version, whether single or multiplayer, because their game achievements are listed on these portals.

Like other publishers, Ubisoft has now created now such a gaming portal called UPlay: http://uplay.uk.ubi.com/

I think they said SH5 keeps the file-structure from SH4. Any modder that knows his way around SH3/4 should be able to find his way around SH5.

Uplay shouldn't be of any harm. It just rewards players for continuing to play a title by unlocking achievements/Uplay units.

Have fun digging through several years worth of archieves. :haha:

I do however recall a number of mods from the "pre supermod era":

- Improved convoys and Imrpoved Airpower. Both by Jace11 if i remember correctly.

- Rubini used to do a Harbor traffic mod which predated the Unified campaign. Personnally, i credit rubini with planting the seed from which supermods grew, as his HT mods grew to include more and more stuff as i recall.

- I don't know who did the first dat edits. That's all a bit fuzzy to me with TimeTravellers crush depth editor, and tweaker.

- FLBSales99, i think did the first serious edits into the menu.ini file.


Again, memory's fuzzy.

The first one was enabling swaztika on flags and the deck of the Bismarck. I remember it well due to the wide discussions around the matter.

So far I've found a thread complaining that UBI changed the shipping date for the US from March 15 to March 16, 2005. I don't remember at all, but it would seem people started playing the game on one of those dates, at least in Europe.

On March 16 there were a lot of posts about "Finally got it!"

The oldest post in the Mods Workshop forum is dated March 14.

There is a post dated March 15 asking for a Gibraltar mission, with Martes86 saying he will give it a try.

On March 20 OfficerPuppy (AKA Gian) put up the first original SH3 Das Boot Sound Mod, featuring a few sound files he had changed.

But it would seem that Ragtag is correct. This thread posted the same day http://www.subsim.com/phpBB_archive1/viewtopic.php?t=29832 refers to an existing mod adding the Swastika to the Kriegsmarine flag. The link within the thread is dead, so the date of the original release can't be read, but the wording confirms that that mod already existed on another board.

Congrats to Ragtag for his excellent memory!:rock:

I actually dug out SH3 from my dusted shelf and installed it again. Having a blast up in Scapa atm :)
Somehow i actually like the atmosphere in SH3 better than SH4 for some reason even though i play SH4 weekly. Oh well, better enjoy these games before SH5 comes out :)

If not, usually first things to go off in any new game is those stoopid bik files in intros.
That's not a MOD per se.

Then it's the keyboard preferences, find the file that has the info if the game does not have options inside.

Such as the case in SH3/4.

I still use the KeyChanger 1.3 (SetKeys 1.3) sometimes.

I still give SH3 and SH4 roughly equal time, so SH3 for me has never been on a "dusted shelf". Almost two years in a storage unit, but that's another story.

Also with the interior flooding i can see a huge improvement in not being able to dive with big holes in ya sub , i hope .
