i just picked it up and started playing. but i got stuck pretty quick!

2 questions:

1. how do i avoid getting struck by torpedo bombers? my unsucessful tatic up till now has been a full rudder and flank speed, but i still get struck pretty often?

2. avoiding dive bombers? same tactic as above with the same results.

I just ordered mine and is on the way. I'm looking forward to playing it. Have you downloaded some of the mods? As far as your question is concerned...have you tried zig-zagging? I'm currently playing Silent Hunter 2 and with all the mods available its not so bad. Unfortunately my puter is so old that I can't play sh3 or sh4 so sh2 will have to do for the time being.

Keep the old one as nothing new will run SH2 or DC due to the graphics card drivers not supporting the engine. That at least goes for Nvidia cards.

For anyone who still plays it.....

ATI drivers work fine. I just played it yesterday. My video car is a ATI 4670 with the latest drivers

Works in Windows 7 as well. It does require a little bit of weaking but it plays fine for me

I play DC using a Nvidia GeForce 8600M and it works fine.

Mine was installed and working with my old ATI card. I upgraded to a 8800GTOC and it was broken thereafter. DC would not even install. The problem is missing menu or corrupted menu buttons and the text in the map pop-up boxes.

Thanks. This is good to know. Off topic but does anyone know where I can get some new menu screens for my SH 2 installation? I've downloaded the ones here at Subsim and while very nice I'd like to see some other ones. Thanks in advance.

I still enjoy much playing an Exercise Rhine mission that I made years ago. When attacked by swordfish TB I usually manouver to present the smallest possible section of the player's KM Bismarck to the incoming aircraft ( i.e., sailing directly away from them) while shooting at them both using the game engine and operating the AA by myself. I usually manage to shot 9-15 of them down. It is true that the swordfish are low speed flying aircrafts, and this tactic might be not so successful with other TB, as in the Pacific against the Jap Kate...
Hope that helps

Real-life tactic: 'Comb' the torpedo - turn directly away from the attacking plane. After you hear the "Torpedo in the water!" report, then turn out of its track.

DC was a fun game back in the day although battlestations midway puts it to sham really.. The thing about DC that always bothered me was that there wasn't an underwater depth charge cam..It would have been fun to watch the underwater destruction..:)

hey again!

thanks for the advice of turning in the same direction as the bombers...it really works!

but i didnīt get any answers to my second question: how about avoiding divebombers. i try to turn hard when they start their dive towards me. but i still get hit...is there a teqnique here aswell?

Make sure all the AA guns are activated. It helps. I haven't played in awhile but I don't recall ever getting hit by dive bombers.
