Yesterday a speech was given in which the claims of slowing down of 'contraction' and actual growth in the economy.

I'm not so sure where they are getting their data from but this map is a stark representation of the situation since 2007. It is quite dramatic and shocking to see it depected in this manner.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrP9qJmjIsA&feature=player_embedded

and then today I read this...

President Barack Obama outlined new multibillion-dollar stimulus and jobs proposals Tuesday, saying the nation must continue to "spend our way out of this recession" until more Americans are back at work.

Spend you way out of debt? What the hell? Isnt that what caused alot of this go begin with?

Is he really this clueless or is there something more nefarious at work here.

"spend our way out of this recession" != "Spend your way out of debt"

So spend your way out of recession becomes.
Spend you way out of debt?
It must be something lost in translation.
Its so hard taking English and changing it to English

Is he really this clueless
Errr...tax cuts for small companies who create jobs?
Nefarious stuff eh:rotfl2:
But hold on Steamwake, isn't cutting taxes the holy grail of your personal political philosophy under the great god gipper?
Especially to small business as its mom and pop industries that are at the heart of mainstreet cultural values:har:

OK. Lets all go spend our next 3 paychecks today, and decrease our personal Debt!?!?

These politician are realy something.
They either think themselves to be very smart, or the people to be very stupid.

It will never see the light of day and even if it does it will be quickly repealed.

"Spend your way out of debt" reminds me of what Gordo has been doing, and yeah, it's really worked! :damn:

If not American, can we express our opinion in your thread?

Just to be sure I don't offend too many people here...

Well if non native Americans were not allowed to post we would lose at least 3/4 of the posters here in GT :haha: No more long [tldr] posts from Skybird and the likes.

Oh and I think it would make a dramatic shift to the right as well ;)

Furthermore I'm not the one you need to seek 'permission' from. Trust me if you step on some toes they will let you know.

Just keep it civil without personal attacks (on members) and its all cool.

Just role with the punches, you're free to throw a few around yourself. :yep:

Civilized, of course. Like boxing, not a playground brawl. :)

But not rolling with the punches.:rotfl2:

I don't really see what the problem is here. Unemployment and the economy are at the worst they've ever been and the most important number proving that is - 1!

Here in Australia, it was expected for the jobless rate to rise, but instead it fell! Most of the new jobs were full time to boot, which means it looks like our intrest rates are going up again in febuary!:wah:
