Blimey! End of career?!
Don't think the skipper survived that, probably only a few rivets holding the two halves together!
I hate planes, I really do.
Could be one of those SH4 miracle subs where it's still able to run as the visual damage is vastly greater than the actual damage.
Then again, that does look like a direct hit! One happy pilot.
List of things for the boat.
1. Waders for the engine crew
2. Canopy for the new open air mess hall
3. Bigger fly swatter for them flying thingies. :har:
I hate it when I think the AA gunner can get em http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae228/g2banything/hunter.gif

How'd the plane catch you? Radar not working?

I was in 50ft of shallow water in the middle of the night with lite fog...just thought I would chance it. My APR picked up his radar...It appeard two bombs hit, thus double the damage.
Course mods can't fix all the damage zones, no sub could run like that. ..it looked like that from every side, top and bottom. All the crew was wounded, 4 dead. I couldn't dive, bout didn't pull out of this one in shallow water. Strange, CO2 would lite up as I dived. Blew tanks and surfaced, but no more air and compressor totally gone. I think every possible item was broken. So fought a few more planes. I lost most of my fuel, didn't make it back to base, about 100 miles short before i finally hit 0 knots.
As usual, we waved at passing US ships and planes. They should give you a free port with a tow if you get that close and take some points away.
Aye, it would be nice to call for a tug or sub-tender when you reach a certain distance from port, makes you feel like some kind of deranged looking hitch-hiker trying to get a ride http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae228/g2banything/killersmiley.gif

It's disappointing that SH4 doesn't have an "abandon ship" option. You either die or make it back to base, no other choices.
Have any of the modders looked at this?
Even a simple static screen after selecting "abandon ship" showing a raft at sea and a message saying "You and your crew were picked up by a friendly destroyer" (your career continues) OR "You and your crew were picked up by an enemy vessel and you were interned in a Japanese prison camp"(your career ends).
Hopefully, SH5 will have something along these lines for the U-boats in the Atlantic.

Abandon ship is in the Menu.txt. It shows the devs had it in mind but i don't think they completed it. Another option in that file is for burying your dead at sea, which would have been useful but its also not functional as far as i know.

I have wondered about an abandon ship feature(as well as a bury dead at sea) for a long time.Makes no sense it was not included.I think a random chance of rescue or capture would be nice if you choose to abandon ship.If its there, perhaps a modder will address it, if not, hopefully ALL future SH titles will include it.Hopefully SH 5 will be a success and SH 6 will bring about a well deserved return to the PTO with the attention and detail it deserves. If not for modders, SH 4 wouldve died long ago.

Yes, it's bad when you have friendly ships going right past you 50 miles from base. We waved, offered whiskey, they just ride by. We sawed the back part off and rowed, but guys got tired and killed themselves.
