Real minefields?

I play SH III with GWX 3.0 only no other mods.
I get these messages at the early part of the war that state that the Brits have laid extensive minefields on the East coast of England. Are these stock messages from the original game or added in by the GWX team?
The reason I ask is every so often I suffer a "mystery" death in the North Sea. I mean sudden and un repairable damage before death.
I don't believe it is the S class sub wandering around as my bridge watch spots them.
Is a minefield the explanation or a game bug every so often?

It depends on where you are exactly. North Sea is still a big place. You could have run into a normal ship by accident when you were at high TC. Please be more specific about your location.

At a certain date early in the war there will be extensive minefields deployed infront of the eastern brittish coast. Heed that radio message as a warning.

I have had my run ins with mines. They are quite real and the death you reported in your post sounds very much like a mine strike, though generaly they are set deep eunf that you have be be submerged befor they are any real threat to you, parascope depth or better. I have found them in port at Scapa and one time in the Chanel not far from shore while exfiltrating from a port attack I had conducted.

If you open the right core campaign file in the mission editor you can see where the mine fields are so you know where to avoid.

The minefields in GWX are located where it was identified that minesfields were laid during WWII. The messages are actual wartime messages sent for immersion purposes only, but there are a lot of mines around the British coast.

If you hang around the coast at high TC then it is common to die from hitting a mine.
