In the menu bar when you compile a thread, above where I am typing there is a selection to "insert image", which is great but selecting it you are then asked for a URL as in "HTTP". What's up, as the pic is sitting on my desktop, and not on the web somewhere. I see pictures in posts a lot and obviously they know something I do not. Anyone want to steer me???......thanks for reading

First you have to post the pic on a photo or file hostine website like Filefront, Rapidshare or Photobucket. Then you link to it there.

I appreciate the info. Just got a screen capture device going and got it figured out. I left the sub on auto helm in the Coral Sea and left the boat with the free cam and went on tour while they destroyed it. Got some great pics from above and below and all around..........pretty neat. It was fun learning how to use it........Thanks again. It is 11:00 am in Seattle and I been up since yesterday messing with this stuff, got to catch a few Z'ssssss..............

as far as i can see, filefront no longer lets you upload images there unless i missed something :06:

Imageshack and PhotoBucket are the two best. I prefer Photobucket myself, as they automatically convert to .jpeg.

I'd second the Photobucket recommendation. Fairly easy to use and link to. I noticed Photobucket has changed slightly and the option you probably want is the Share feature then select "Direct link for layout pages" and copy/paste the link into the "insert image" feature on this website when posting.
Here's an old shot which I modified slightly with a graphics program(i.e. blurred it slightly and switched it to B&W) ;
